Happy Hump day! To celebrating humping we here on this blog are telling a love story. My love story. I feel tickled that you are following along with the love story. I am really sorry if you’re sick of hearing it. But I LOVE writing it. I have had so much fun these last few days reliving through my writing all the emotions I felt during the beginning of our courtship.
If you missed the other 2, check them out before reading this one :)
Part 1: Jared and Miki before Jare Hound and Mikles
Part 2: Not trying to play a game
Jared and I had started to text, even though it wasn’t very often, and I didn’t know the details of every hour of his day. It was enough to let me know that he was interested in me. One Friday night a few weeks after we had met, it was really late and I was out with some friends. Jared and I had been texting a bit earlier and had tossed around the idea of hanging out that night. By the time 9pm rolled around, I thought that the night was a bust for Jared and I. I called my bestie, Ellen and we found a frat party that a guy we knew from high school was throwing. We grabbed a few girls and car pooled together about 30 minutes into downtown Salt Lake City. As we were driving I got a text from Jared asking if i wanted to hang out. I was really giddy, but was now in a predicament. I didn’t have my own car, and didn’t want to make my friends turn around for me. I decided to play the card. I told Jared that I would love to hang out with him, but I was about 30 minutes away at a frat party, and if drove down I’d come hang out. I knew as I was sending the text that it was a long shot.
Jared responded quickly, and just asked me for the address. At this point it was more of a “if I feel like it, I’ll come by” type of conversation. So he calls me about half an hour later, and asks me which house I was at. I ran outside to find him, his identifying mark was that he was in a gray Acura TL. It was extremely dark, and I had no idea the difference between an acura and a suburu at this point. I was talking to him on the phone, and I could hear his actual voice getting closer. My heart started to flutter, knowing we were actually this close to hanging out. I was nervous, I didn’t know if this time would be as fun as last time. I didn’t know what to expect, at this point we had only sent a few texts back and forth. When I finally reached him, we both smiled. We had a very awkward embrace and started to walk back to the party. (side note: on our walk back we got offered ecstasy - we declined) We made our way back to the party, and stayed for about 15 minutes, before Jared convinced me to leave and go play poker with some of his friends.
After our intense poker game, which really was us watching them finish their game of poker, and playing penny hockey to pass time, we decided to head back to our hood, and hang out at Jareds house. He owned a town home, and asked me if I wanted to watch a movie. We red boxed the most horrible movie ever. It was supposed to be a scary movie, but it was incredibly dumb. Jared and I talked through the whole movie, I remember the movie being on in the background but we just were chatting the entire time and enjoyed getting to know each other. After the movie was over we still couldn’t get enough of each other, so we decided to go for a walk in the mountains (where we live) and we couldn’t stop talking. It was like we both needed to lay all our cards on the table. We were enjoying each other, but we were also trying to be overly honest. I actually remember the scene being a lot like the one with Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling in Crazy Stupid Love. One conversation snowballs into another, and you just keep finding more interesting things about one another.
Around 6:30am, Jared drove me back to my car. After this night we kept up our routine. We would text every now and again, it wasn’t rare for us to go a full day without texting, but when the weekends came around we always made plans with one another. Eventually we got into a routine where we’d hang out Tuesday night and the weekend. Every other night of the week we’d text or not, but no matter what Tuesday, Friday and Saturday we’d see each other. After about 3 weeks of getting to know each other, it happened. Our first kiss. We had spent the entire night down at the hot tub, and when we got back into the house, we were laying on the bed watching TV. Jared was laying on my lap and I had my head up against the pillows. Jared turned around “guess what” and then just attacked my face. “I’ve been wanting to do that since the night I met you”. He was being super cute, but the first kiss was terrible. There were definitely no fireworks! We both knew it sucked, and in so many words decided that we should try another first kiss and make it a bit better. Eventually we got the kissing thing down. =)
Even after our magical first kiss we kept our very steady routine of hanging out on Tuesday nights, and again on the weekends. We kept this up for a really long time. Actually it was about a year after meeting and about 10 months after having the exclusive talk when we finally decided to hang out more than once a week. It wasn’t that we didn’t enjoy being around each other, we just didn’t see a reason to rush things. I enjoyed having the butterflies EVERY TIME I saw Jared for a year. We made sure that beginning stage lasted as long as possible. We also allowed ourselves to get to know each other, and slowly work toward a relationship instead of expecting it all at once. It may not be the right thing for everyone, but it definitely worked out well for us.
We actually kept it old school, and had “the talk”. February 1st 2009 Jared asked me to be his girlfriend and to make our relationship exclusive. Of course, I accepted.
