Peppa Pig Birthday Cake

Posted on the 03 April 2013 by Meltingmoments

Peppa Pig is so darn cute. It’s one of the few kid’s shows that I don’t mind watching with Dora. I love how Daddy Pig thinks he’s an expert on everything and how Mummy Pig gently reminds him that he’s not.

It was an easy decision to theme Dora’s second birthday party as Peppa Pig. I was determined to be more organised this year, so I started the cake a few days early. The lovely lady at our local cake decorating shop assured me that when making mud cakes, they taste better made a few days (even a week) in advance.

I started with my favorite cake recipe, White Chocolate Mud.

I had pinned this idea in my planning phase.

My first cake cracked as I removed it from the pan. It became the test cake. I soon discovered that the sprinkles I was using would not have the same effect as the funfetti cake above… in fact, they ran which gave a swirly purple pattern. Next time, I’ll look for larger sprinkles. The cake still happened to taste delicious.

I made two round cakes and stored them in the fridge wrapped in glad wrap and in a plastic cake container.

The night before the party, I started on the fondant Peppa Pig topper. I haven’t had a lot of experience with fondant so I used this cookie idea as a template and enlarged it for the cake. It was a hot night so I had to work quickly or it would go too soft and sticky.

I think our Peppa’s nose was a little longer than normal but I was pretty happy with her.

I used Ang’s tip and bought some pre-made frosting. I used some to hold the two cakes together and tinted the rest pale pink to frost the cake. I placed Peppa on top and then dotted the edges with some little flower shaped candies.

When Dora saw her cake she squealed “Peppa!” And it was all worth it :)
