Pick up the guitar baby, it’s vacation time..!!!

My guitar

I have never been as bored in my life as i was on this vacation. Though, I had spent the first days of  my holidays travelling to places like Kerala and Mysore, but all the extreme enjoyment that I had, while visiting these exotic locations made sure that the rest of the months would be as boring as watching paint dry. After the brief travel it took me some time to soak in that i would have to spend the rest of the 30 days back at my home. I contented myself by spending most of my evenings by hanging around the market-area in my sector with my friends. But how long, was the question!

I had bought a guitar few years back, after getting inspired by the attention the seniors of my school got when they played it. I had played it not more that a few months that my exams came and then my last year in school and then my first year in college. So events came on and on, and i forgot that I had a guitar adorning the corners of my room. I had not laid my hands on it for more than a year. But yesterday my eyes fell on it and i picked it up. I rubbed each and every part of my acoustic guitar until i could see it shining. The strings had got detuned and a bit rusted as it was left unused for a long time. Looking at the awful condition of my guitar, the Jimi Hendrix in me rose up and came to the conclusion that even if the neighbours came shouting at me i won’t leave my guitar alone. And then began my guitar classes and who was my teacher?….THE INTERNET!

Yes, of course the internet. do i have a better source? I can choose the teacher of my choice, choose my own lessons, make him repeat ( and he won’t get irritated), attend the classes whenever I wish to and most importantly, Bunk them..;)

Caught in the net!

Then I came across the website guitarlessons.com and began everything with a fresh slate. I took the beginner guitar lessons and before I realised I learnt some guitar techniques, some basic chords, read guitar chords and  most-importantly learned to tune them. So the next time, when my guitar gets detuned I know how to bring it back to life.

Here is the twist, how can something amusing not happen when I am at work??!! Right when I was taking this lesson on how I should keep my wrists relaxed so that whatever I play sounds better. I saw this sentence somewhere between the lesson guide :

‘Stay calm, Stay relaxed. You may even break your strings sometime but it’s all a part of the learning process’

A minute had not been passed that i broke my D-string (3rd from top) while strumming !!! I was left dumbfounded and kept on staring the broken string for a moment. But such things are not new to me!

Thankfully, I had an extra pair of each of the strings. But puzzled on how to fix it, again I went back to my Google uncle and told him ‘replace broken strings’. As helpful as he always is; popped up a video from YouTube. After watching it a couple of times: Here I am, the official string repairer (or rather, replacer!)

But alas, my vacations have come to an end to make way for my college-time, which comes along with endless lectures and travelling (the second-part is what i hate the most). Now I ask myself, couldn’t i have picked up my guitar earlier? Nevertheless, at least  I know what to do the next time I get bored..:)

But of course, I may never do it….(do I have to specially tell you, that I am lazy?)
