Thursday I got some – more or less – good news. The vet had managed to remove all the affected tissue, so there are no ‘bad’ cells left on my dog’s chin. The vet told me over the phone that it was a plasmacytoma, which is a tumor that arises out of a specific type of white blood cell called plasma cells. Since plasmacytomas are very rarely associated with multiple myeloma, the vet advised us to run an extra test in which they colour the tissue that was removed. We’ll get the results within a week.
On Monday Rufus’ stitches will be removed. Right now it looks fine; nice and pink. Lucky for us he hasn’t really shown any inclination of wanting to scratch the healing wound, so we didn’t have to suffer by putting an e-collar on the poor dog.
