My son came home from school yesterday and immediately opened his back pack to pull a white paper bag out of it. He ripped open the bag and thrusted a piece of art into my hands. “Here you go,” he exclaimed proudly. I looked down in my hands to find a clay sunshine. My daughter had made the same project when she was in Kindergarten, and this beautiful sunshine has been hanging in my kid’s bathroom for the last 2 years. Check out my kids’ gorgeous masterpieces.
I knew my son’s intention when he handed over that sunshine. It was like an unspoken triumph. “Now you can hang mine in the bathroom, too!” He hates to be outdone by his sister.
What he doesn’t know is that this is the part of motherhood that I cherish beyond almost anything else. His kid art is a reflection of his childhood that will remain in our home long after his childhood years are over. Those sunshines are precious to me, and I would have hung his sunshine alongside my daughter’s without him even asking. It was a given, and I am proud to have it hanging in our home.
My song of the day is “Precious Moments” by The Three Degrees, because my children’s art is simply precious. Click HERE to hear this 1970′s hit, and as I listen to it, I’ll be thinking of all of the precious moments they give me on a daily basis. What a blessing.
