Pregnancy Updates

Every pregnancy is unique. I have always been told this and my readings on pregnancy never failed to raise this. It is not that I question the truth in this fact; it is just that I have never experienced it in all my previous pregnancies.

Well, not until this time around.

All my pregnancies before this one had been similar; they have been generally pleasant. I never had problems eating or sleeping. I never had to suffer from nausea or morning sickness. I ate whatever and whenever I wanted. I always slept like a baby. I always looked forward to each and every fetal movement because I feel assured of my baby’s health.

This time, it’s as if I’m experiencing pregnancy for the first time. From the get-go, I already suffered from abdominal pains so severe my immediate thought was of one or both my kidneys failing. I have recurring urinary tract infection (UTI) so I think it’s natural to associate abdominal pains with kidney malfunctions.

Then I had to contend with morning sickness at all times of the day. Early in the pregnancy, I had trouble eating. The mere thought of food made me want to throw up! I had to force food down my through because I know I have higher nutritional needs because of the life I am carrying. I’m so glad it’s all over now! Now that I am on my second trimester, I have regained my appetite.

Sleeping is becoming an issue too. No sleeping position is ever comfortable and I wake up to a sore back the following day. For some reason, I stir awake at 2am and sleep will not come back until around 5am, by which time I will have to get off bed and start getting my kids ready for school.

The baby also seems to be overly active. It’s always moving around, a good sign but because it is housed lower in my uterus than usual, its movements tend to veer on the painful side.

Don’t get me wrong. I am not complaining because these are all part of being pregnant. I am happy to be given another blessing and to experience motherhood all over again. A lot of women are not as blessed as I am so I have no reason to complain.
