…put ‘er There

Happy National Handshake Day! I know, I know, many of you are probably thinking, “another one?”

And while many of these random holidays do beg the question, “why?” This one seems particularly pertinent at the moment.

Throughout human history, the handshake has meant different things to different cultures…

It’s been a gesture of gratitude or admiration…

A sign of friendship…

A show of sportsmanship…

And even to mark an informal (in the legal sense) agreement…

While the importance of a firm handshake has always been there…

At its heart, the handshake maintained its dignity…

That is until this generally agreeable gesture got (quite literally) yanked into a struggle for power and dominance.

Today, we’re taking it back.

I can’t think of a better day to reclaim this former sign of respect and dignity that’s been dragged into a world of aggression and save it from those that would use it for their own agendas. So, hang in there, handshake. We’re coming for you…

…bi-daily smile…
