Radiation & Turquoise Eclipse

Posted on the 25 June 2013 by Artbycedar

I’ve finally finished the huge painting I’ve been working on all month! I give you “Radiation,” a continuation of my exploration of solar flares. It is 3′ square, and in person it is so, so striking!

Still wet, on the easel in my studio:

I love the bold modern look of the painting wrapping around onto the 2″ deep edges! This large piece of artwork has such a commanding presence. You can see how cool it looks from the side:

After laboring so long on such a big project, I needed to do something quick and fresh, so I pulled something out of my sketchbook. I used the image of this eclipse that was bouncing around in my mind as an excuse to play with color. This turquoise/teal color is one of my favorite colors!

I noticed today how well-used my humble little easel is. Look at the amount of paint-crud that has accumulated over the years!

Each little line of paint going across this bar represents a different painting that leaned there while it was wet.

My whole family has been struck down with the most miserable cold for the past week. I’m still sick but starting to come out of the awful head-fog I’ve been in, and I have more energy every day. Can’t wait until I feel healthy again. It feels good just to be getting back to work after missing out on so much last week!
