So something that really struck a chord with me (and frankly got me pretty angry) this week were the pictures that came out of Kelly Brook in Miami. For those of you that don’t know, Kelly was doing a photo shoot for her new line of swimwear and so of course there were paps there to get pictures.
The thing that made me angry was the way people reacted to the photos. I came across these pictures on a newspaper’s website here, and after scanning the article I automatically went to have a read of the comments. Big mistake. I couldn’t believe that some people’s perception of beauty can be so skewed! Here are pictures of a beautiful, curvy woman in a bikini and honestly the majority of comments were from people complaining that she was “fat”.
I’m sorry but there is absolutely no way anybody can describe Kelly Brook as fat! She is a woman who was blessed with a fantastic figure: she has boobs, a tiny waist, a bum and a good pair of thighs! I thought this was how women were supposed the look? Obviously somewhere along the way society’s opinion of the female form has been hugely distorted. Are we all supposed to be size 6 Cheryl Cole types? If you do not fit this mold are you automatically “fat” or “ugly” as some other comments suggested?
I know everybody is different and women have all different kinds of body shapes, some people are naturally very slim and that’s brilliant too. But I just think that the message that is being sent out to impressionable girls and women is that if you don’t look a certain way, you are not acceptable.
My opinion is that there need to be more women like Kelly Brook in the industry who are confident with their bodies, and show that it doesn’t matter if you are over a size 12, you can still be beautiful and successful. Maybe then this warped notion of beauty can finally be challenged.
Fat?! You need glasses.
