What the sky looks like from my street
I hope you all had a horrific Halloween. I spent the day indulging in treats and watching horror movies, sadly no trick-or-treaters came by my house but I enjoyed myself anyway. But now the spooktacular spectacles are over and we have to come to terms with the fact that it’s November. It’s no longer the beginning of the school year or just after summer…we’ve officially entered into “it’s almost the new year” territory. I don’t know about you, but whenever November hits I start to sit back and think about which of my long forgotten resolutions I can pick up and finish real quick. The biggest thing on my 2012 to-do list is to graduate from college and I’m well on track for that to be finished so I guess I can sit back and call the year a success. (I also managed to get my internet fixed so there’s another thing I can check off my list).
I had big plans for today. David Levithan and Rachel Cohn are giving a talk at my county library and I was all excited about going and listening to that. Sadly, after some family time went a little longer than expected I’m feeling a little too exhausted to brave the cold, dark night so I’m settling for buying copies of the books and keeping an eye out for a goodreads interview. We’ve been having a lot of gray days here recently which doesn’t help matters much when you suffer from “seasonal affective disorder” like myself. I guess it’s time to get my light out and start soaking up those artificial rays. Unlike other disorders I’m lucky that this only hits me in the late fall-winter, but it’s annoying to say the least. If you’ve been following my blog for awhile you know I like to keep busy with projects, writing, crafting, and school/work things, but whenever we get to about this point in the year I hit a wall hard. No matter how much sleep I get it’s hard to get out of bed in the mornings and getting places I need to be is hard enough, let along doing the things I need to do, not to mention the things I want to do. But as fellow sufferers know, hard as it is, we have to keep pushing through. While not going out tonight might be a mini-loss in the bigger battle I still force myself to walk at least 1 mile a day and refuse to let myself lie down for more than 20 minutes when I’m not going to bed. Otherwise a large mug of tea and a good back can be a good escape. Although this kind of slow down really puts a dent in all the things I want to do over the winter season. But life goes on.

The Star Trek cross-stitch is taking a back-seat for the Holidays
As you can see I’ve made a huge amount of progress on the Star Trek cross-stitch and it pains me to put it away for the season, but I promised myself I would start on my Christmas projects no later than November 1st, so in spite of being tantalizingly close to finished (well, one and a half pages) I’m putting it away so I can work on my cards and ornaments.
While the piece is really coming together well I’m not sure I’ll ever get a pattern from this place again (not that I remember the name of the website anyway). It just looks like the pattern has been put together by a computer program that pixelates the pictures to get the squares for the pattern rather than what the better places do, which is use artists to transform a picture into a cross-stitch pattern (which you can see at Heaven and Earth Designs, which I maintain sells the best, most unique patterns anywhere). While pixel designs have their place (like the pixel people) for this design it just doesn’t work. The pattern is unique and I like that it’s Star Trek, but I always feel like I’m looking at it out of focus.
I do have some pretty neat ornaments/cards to work on for the Holidays this year and I would LOVE to send some out to my blog followers. Now, I can’t promise that I’ll have them done in a timely manner but I would like to offer a card/ornament to all of my blog followers. So, if you’re interested in one of my cross-stitch pieces (unfortunately I’m not organized enough to let people pick designs out so it’ll be random) email me (my address is on my “about me” page) your address and I’ll send one out to you as well as post the in-progress pics of your gift on my blog. If you’re interested let me know by the end of November.
Here are the first two sets I have planned:

Holiday sentiment ornaments

Snowmen ornaments
That’s all for today. I’ll be trying to keep up with the blog as much as I can. By December I should (hopefully) be back to a more regular schedule. We’ll see how it goes, life never seems to go according to my very well laid out plans. Who knew?
