Today sees the release of the first Star Wars film outside of the Skywalker story, but more importantly, it’s the second Star Wars film to feature a female lead. It’s a fact that a few have chose to make a fuss about, but I won’t dwell on that fact. I mention it only to point out how relevant and important the series still is.
Those who know the Star Wars universe well know that the recent “trend” of lady leads fits in perfectly with the original themes and message of the Star Wars franchise. In that long ago and far away galaxy, all living creatures are connected by a force, and individuals are not judged by their race, gender, social standing, or age, but by their actions.
Those who rebel do so not to make sure they get their way, but to see that everyone has an equal voice and opportunity. It’s not a perfect world, but one that strives to be better, which I like to think makes it a little bit like the world we live in.
Whether you agree with that sentiment or not, I think we can all agree that it’s an exciting to weekend to be a Star Wars fan. To those who haven’t seen it yet, enjoy! To those who have, no spoilers, please. And to all, may the force be with you!
…just for fun:
