…recharacterize

As we enter the final days of 2017, it’s officially crunch time for your 2018 resolutions. Some will aspire to form new habits, others will kick old ones, and I surmise just about everyone will vow to cut the clutter and get more organized in the coming year, including, it would seem, the Library of Congress.

You may recall back in 2010 this temple of tomes added the complete history of Twitter to its digital collection. Yes, all of them. But now, nearly a decade later, the library has decided it might not need all the tweets.

Strangely enough, in the seven years since Twitter “donated” access to its archive, the library came to the conclusion that maybe all of these gems aren’t worth storing for posterity. And yes, of course, they’re not talking about your tweets, obviously. I’m sure you’re still making the cut.

To be clear, the LOC will still be collecting tweets, they process will just be more selective. I presume this means that all of the cute animal feeds will be getting their own wing, and the fate everything else will be determined on a case-by-case basis. Right?

Because what would our posterity think if we didn’t save these for them?

You’re welcome, future Americans, you’re welcome.
