Reflections

It's Good Friday. Our family stays at home during Holy Week. We don't lounge on the beach. We reserve that for Easter Sunday. Instead we hear mass, go to confession, take part in the Via Crucis (Station of the Cross), stay at home and watch films like The Ten Commandments and those which depict the life of Jesus Christ. It is a week of spiritual renewal, silence and reflection.
Today as I was browsing through my laptop, I went over our photos when we gave out a party to kids at a daycare center near our place last December 2011. After the event, I was swamped with different kinds of emotion - a mixture of joy, elation, satisfaction, gratitude, humility, sadness (Well, I'm sure I'm not bipolar :D ) I was a bit sad when we were nearing the area. It was a modest, small bungalow structure that tries to squeeze in more than fifty pre-school pupils. It also easily gets flooded during the rainy season. I was happy though when I saw the kids because they came with big smiles and eager faces. It was our first time to do this kind of thing and it inspired us to continue doing it on at least a bi-annual basis. We planned of doing a school year-ender party of sorts to another group of pre-school children last March. Unfortunately, our final exams extended until Holy Tuesday! So I didn't have ample time to prepare. We decided to move it sometime in June. We hope that it will push through. In the meantime let me share to you below our wonderful experience last December.

The kids' sticker name tags

I bought these name tags at a local store. My daughter Heart helped me out with this, and also with packing the goodies to be given to the kids. She insisted that we wrap them in these party bags, instead of the plain colored cellophane.

Here's my little girl. She was hesitant at first to play with the other kids because "they are so small, Mommy. I might run over them or push them if we play tag, and..." A 7-year old can be that mindful of others :) Each and every time Heart says things like this, I always follow it with a silent "thank you" to God. I don't know if I was that thoughtful when I was a kid, but thank you Lord for giving me this little girl who is so good and respectful of others :D I am blessed.
