When I set about on my 10 Worst Chocolate Bars Challenge I asked my lovely readers to help with suggestions and something that came up time and time again was Hershey's chocolate. I have to admit that I am not a fan of it either so when it came to reviewing a bar for the challenge I haven't exactly been keen to rush our and buy some, but in the name of the list it had to be done!
I didn't want to just review a regular old Hershey's bar so I looked for something a little different but the best I came up with was their milk chocolate Cookies 'N' Cream bar.
It's not that all Hershey's bars are bad, I've given a couple of their bars 5 stars in the past; Zagnut and the Zero Bar are both awesome in my opinion but then neither of those involve their milk chocolate. Even the 5th Avenue which does involve Hershey's milk chocolate scored 4 stars but that was because the filling was so awesome.
Sadly though Hershey's milk chocolate on it's own is quite ghastly so I didn't have much confidence that this bar was going to go down well. I found it in my local Tesco and if I remember rightly it was 70p. I personally do not understand why people would buy these bars, I mean you pay more because it's been imported and there is so much better chocolate right here in the UK but these bars seem to be in most shops these days so someone must be buying them!
Anyway the bar weighs 40g and contain 214 calories. It is flat in shape and is made up of 12 rectangular pieces. It is quite dark in color compared to the likes of Dairy Milk etc.
Taste-wise, well what can I say? It's not massively chocolatey, it has a slightly bitter after-taste to it and it's certainly not what I would describe as creamy. The texture is waxy, almost oily and has a crunch to it due to the cookie pieces which were a nice addition but not enough to distract from the poor chocolate.
Verdict
A predictably low score for Hershey's Cookies 'N' Cream Milk Chocolate Bar and without a doubt it will be making my 10 Worst Chocolate Bars list. I think a score of 1.5 stars covers this bar plus Hershey's Kisses and the regular Hershey's Milk Chocolate bar.
