REVIEW! Higgidy Spinach, Feta and Toasted Pine Nut Pie

I was sent some vouchers to try some products from Higgidy the other day and I have already reviewed their Balsamic Onion & Mature Cheddar Quiche which is ideal for picnics, especially since it is National Picnic week! To celebrate Higgidy are giving away 2000 little picnic bags with some tokens for one their Little Quiches or Slices as well as other goodies so head over to their website for more details.
Anyway as well as a couple of quiches, I also purchased this Spinach, Feta and Toasted Pine Nut Pie with my vouchers. This 270g pie usually costs £3.50 and contains 686 calories. It is also suitable for vegetarians.

The pie has seeded shortcrust pastry and is filled with creamy béchamel, leaf spinach, mature cheddar and crumbled feta cheese. It is then topped with roasted red peppers and toasted pine nuts. I think you will agree that it looks fantastic! Every pie made by Higgidy is finished by hand and made in a proper kitchen; clearly a lot of love goes into these products.

I thought that the filling in this pie was lovely, spinach is a flavor that I really love and with the cheese and the pine nuts it was delicious. The roasted red peppers on top were a nice touch and they were slightly blackened which gave them a lovely flavor and I thought that the pastry was excellent.
I think this pie is designed for 2 people as it is too high in calories to eat to yourself and I did think that half might not be enough but actually it was really filling. Higgidy suggest serving with some oven roasted vine tomatoes and I think that would make an excellent accompaniment to this lovely little pie.
Verdict Another lovely product from Higgidy with a home-made feel. I will be looking out for the Pork Sausage and Mash Pie next time I go shopping!
