Our Honest Foods is a relatively new company founded by 3 friends in Bath. Their aim is to make snacking more exciting and I was delighted to be asked if I would like to review their December Snackorium.
The Snackorium is a subscription box which is designed to fit through most residential letter boxes and inside this box is a selection of British snack products. The box is priced at £9.99 a month including postage and packaging.
I love subscription boxes as it gives me the opportunity to try products that I may not have heard of or considered trying and given the general theme of this blog, I was always going to be enthusiastic about a snack based box!
I wish that I had taken a picture of the outside sleeve when it arrived because it had a nice British flag design on it along with a nice Christmas message to my postman! Within the box was 7 different products and so here is a round up of each...
Wild Trail Apple & Raspberry and Yogurt Popcorn Bar looked really big but only weighed 45g. It contains 196 calories plus 1 of your 3 recommended whole-grains a day. It is made from wholegrain popcorn, is wheat and GM free and veggie friendly. I really enjoyed the combination of flavours and the texture was really nice, it was light and slightly moist and actually really filling. I would love to try more products from Wild Trail.
I have tried Tyrrells Alternatives Habas Fritas before and really enjoyed them so I was pleased to get a 30g bag of these strange little snacks in the Snackorium. Habas Fritas are dried board beans which have been fried and coated with salt and chilli powder. They are crunchy and taste quite garlicy with bit of a kick to them.
I love the name of these snacks from The Wise Owl Snack Company. Hoots are a healthy alternative to traditional potato crisps and are baked rather than fried. This 35g bag of cheese and onion Hoots contained 163 calories. They smelt and tasted delicious and reminded me a bit like croutons in texture so had a really nice crunch to them.
This Organic Rooibos from Tea Studio is caffeine free and high in antioxidants. Now I have to confess to not liking tea so this was donated to my brother who was delighted to receive it. Apparently not liking tea is quite rare in Britain though and I did like the idea that a drink was included in the Snackorium.
These dried cranberries from Clearly Scrumptious were a great addition and very festive! I love dried cranberries because of the sweet yet sharp flavours and they also count as 1 of your 5 a day! The 30g bag contains 96 calories.
Now it wouldn't be a proper snack box unless there was some chocolate involved and so here we have Organic Dark Chocolate Buttons from Cocoa Loco. These things are huge and the dark chocolate (min 73% cocoa solids) is made using single origin beans from the Dominican Republic. They are Fairtrade certified and suitable for veggies and vegans. I really enjoyed the strong and rich dark chocolate.
The Wonky Kitchen Raspberry and White Chocolate Fudge was nicely presented and let me tell you that this is the nicest fudge that I have ever tasted! It was really soft in texture and the white chocolate flavor was heavenly. It was followed by a slight sharpness from the raspberry and the combination was seriously good. This was my favorite product in the Snackorium and I will definitely be buying some more at some point.
VerdictThe Snackorium from Our Honest Foods offered a great selection of good quality British snacks. As much as I enjoy trying food from aboard it is fantastic to see that we have so many great snacks on home shores and I love that Honest are supporting this.
There was a good variety of products and I also love that you can purchase specific items from previous boxes from the Our Honest Food online shop. I can see the Snackorium being very popular, I mean who doesn't like to snack? One of the easiest 5 stars that I have ever given!
