I was out walking the dog the other night and whilst enjoying a spot of exercise I thought you know what, I need some dessert! The irony is not lost on me but as Sainsbury's is en route, I popped in and picked up these Chocolate and Honeycomb Cheesecake Slices for £2.00
Each 98g slice is worth 387 calories so I am not sure that the dog walk covered that but it's Christmas so meh. The description reads "2 Slices of baked toffee cheesecake and Belgian dark chocolate cheesecake on a digestive biscuit crumb finished with a toffee topping, Belgian milk chocolate shavings and milk chocolate coated honeycomb pieces".
I like these 2 packs of desserts that you can get in the supermarket, I don't think my husband and I could be trusted with a whole cheesecake so 2 slices is perfect for us.
The digestive base is quite solid and was difficult to cut with a spoon, but this could be that I have a weird obsession of eating dessert with a teaspoon; it makes it last longer and I am not alone here, one of my brothers also does this, perhaps we are an odd family? Anyway I digress. Maybe if I had used a dessert spoon or fork I would have been ok and not pinged half of it across the room. All that said it still tasted good and was nice because it wasn't too sweet so it let the cheesecake part shine through.
This was part was very sweet and deliciously creamy and the combination of the 2 flavours of cheesecake worked really well together. The "toffee topping" was more like a chocolate fudge sauce, it wasn't very thick but complimented the cheesecake really well and the chocolate shavings and honeycomb pieces were an added bonus. The honeycomb was the crunchy kind (rather than chewy) so added texture and the chocolate shavings, well they looked pretty and more chocolate is always a good thing in my book.
Verdict
This is an excellent dessert from Sainsbury's, especially as it only costs £1 a slice which in my opinion is a complete bargain. I liked that the cheesecake was surprisingly light and I will definitely be buying it again.
