I first saw these Skittle Darkside reviewed by The Daily Yum back in January, Dani's review is accompanied by some pretty awesome Star Wars drawings so check it out. Anyway I love Skittles and always have done since I was a kid so I was excited to see these whilst visiting a garden center today. This is not just any garden centre, this is Longacres in Bagshot which is possibly the most awesome garden center ever because it has a large food hall which includes a pretty decent American import section.
Skittles Darkside and claim to be "The other side of the rainbow". I paid £1.20 for this packet which contains 230 calories. I have to say that I don't think that Skittles Darkside look as pretty as original Skittles as the colours are all quite similar.
The purple Skittle is Dark Berry with tastes very similar to the purple skittles that we already have in the UK which I believe are blackcurrant flavor. In the US however I believe their original purple Skittles are grape.
Pomegranate (dark red) was really nice and actually does really taste of pomegranate with a bit of a sour kick to it. Blood Orange (light red) is also really nice and is like a more intensive version of the original orange flavor.
I don't really get how Midnight Lime is any different to the normal lime flavoured skittle but thats fine because the green ones have always been my favorite. If I am not mistaken then I think they may be a little darker in color. I have no idea what a Forbidden Fruit (blue) is but this flavor had a bit of a tropical taste and perhaps a hint of coconut and was pretty tasty.
Verdict Skittles Darkside were good but I couldn't get massively excited about them because they are just not different enough to what we already have in the Original Skittles.
