Today I am reviewing another product from the new Tesco Finest range which was sent to me by Tesco the other day. Tesco Finest Mascarpone Pasta Sauce is made in Italy using mascarpone from Lombardy and locally harvested Puglian sun ripened tomatoes. The 340g jar contains 4 servings with each one containing 139 calories and it is currently priced at £1.65. All you need to do is stir the sauce through some cooked pasta and you are good to go. Once opened it will keep in the fridge for 3 days so that's handy if you are cooking for less than 4 people.
The sauce smells delicious, I could smell garlic and quite a strong cheese smell which I assume is the pecorino romano listed on the ingredients as to me mascarpone doesn't really have much of a smell, and of course it also smelt of tomatoes. Taste-wise the cheese flavor wasn't as strong as the smell but it was definitely there, along with the garlic and also hints of basil. The tomato flavor was sweet and the mascarpone added a richness. The sauce was thick in texture but I found that the jar went quite far, there was definitely enough for 4 people.
Verdict I enjoyed Tesco Finest Tomato and Mascarpone Pasta Sauce, the texture was great as although it was thick, it wasn't too oily like some sauces can be. It was pretty tasty too and I kept some of the sauce-coated pasta and had it cold with salad the next day and it was still very nice. I would certainly try it again!
