In the end I decided that cheesecake 3 days in a row was taking the mickey a bit so last night I decided to try these Pecan Pie wedges instead. These are another dessert from the new Tesco range; this week I have already reviewed Tesco Finest Billionaires Cheesecake and
Tesco Finest Salted Caramel and Macadamia Cheesecake Slices.
Pecan Pie is unsurprisingly given the eye-catching design of the box, part of the American range with also includes Chocolate and Caramel Crazy Maze Cheesecake Wedges which I will be reviewing very soon and a Banoffee Pie that I haven't managed to track down yet, amongst others. I purchased these pie wedges with vouchers that Tesco's PR company sent me in return for honest reviews of their new dessert range but the pie wedges usually cost £2.50.
The first thing that I noticed upon opening the box is that the 2 slices were quite unevenly sized which is surprising because this is not something that I have encountered with any products from Tesco before. I am sure this is an exception and you know what, it just meant that Mr Review Addict had to have the smaller slice. Each slice should weigh 81g and contain 320 calories.
I had actually never tried Pecan Pie before but I was expecting something similar to a treacle tart. The box described it as butter enriched shortcrust pastry with a filling made from golden syrup and pecans, decorated with toffee sauce.
The pastry on the base was quite soft and it tasted nice and buttery. The filling was nice and crunchy because of the pieces of pecans and it was quite similar to a treacle tart only not as sweet. I enjoyed the earthy taste of the pecans and the syrupy filling was a lovely thick texture.
Verdict Well I am glad I finally got to try some pecan pie. I would still choose a cheesecake over these desserts but you can't really compare the two. I would have awarded these Tesco Pecan Pie Wedges 4 stars but I feel I have to deduct half a star for the uneven slices.
