The Yumdough is yum-yum doughnut hybrid and is available in 4 flavours: raspberry and vanilla, lemon, chocolate and orange and butterscotch. I actually always thought that a yum-yum was just a long shaped doughnut but apparently it is much fluffier and created in layers. So the Yumdough is basically a doughnut with layers, 144 layers to be precise.
I purchased one of the Chocolate and Orange Yumdoughs for Mr Review Addict (which he demanded that I immediately drop off to his work for him) and a Butterscotch one for myself. They will be priced at £1.49 each but there was an introductory offer of 25% off.
I thought that both Yumdoughs looked fantastic. They were made from a lovely golden brown dough which was sprinkled with icing sugar and both toppings looked very appealing! They were also a pretty decent size, I would say taller than your average doughnut.
The Chocolate and Orange Yumdough was topped with a chocolate and orange fondant and some pieces of caramelised orange peel, then within the layers was chocolate and orange sauce. Mr Review Addict loved it, he said that it was nicer than a normal doughnut and was really chocolatey. He was a bit wary of the caramelised orange peel, not being a peel fan but he enjoyed the whole thing so it obviously wasn't a problem.
The Butterscotch Yumdough contained butterscotch sauce and was topped with butterscotch fondant and little pieces of fudge. Quite frankly I thought that it was amazing! I don't eat doughnuts very often because despite enjoying the taste, I find them so heavy. The layers in the Yumdough really did make this one a lot lighter and it had a slightly flakey texture. The butterscotch flavor was very sweet but not sickly and I found myself craving another one...sadly I didn't buy any more!
Verdict I can't say whether or not a Yumdough is better or as good a Cronut but I thoroughly enjoyed it. They look so much prettier than standard doughnuts and the texture was excellent.
