I kept seeing Wrigley's Extra Dessert Delights chewing gum being reviewed on a lot of the USA based food blogs that I read and I was delighted to see that they are being stocked by The Stateside Candy Co. I chose this Rainbow Sherbet flavor because...yes I will admit it...it had a pink wrapper. They also have available: Mint Chocolate Chip, Lemon Square, Root Beer Float and Orange Creme Pop flavours. Each 15 stick pack costs £1.50 from The Stateside Candy Co.
We don't seem to get much exciting gum in the UK, there is of course Wrigley's Juicy Fruit and Extra Strawberry, Trident also have a few fruity based flavours but I haven't seen anything as exciting as Dessert Delights, although I have to admit that Wrigley Extra White Bubblemint as reviewed by Grocery Gems does sound interesting.
Apparently each stick contains 5 calories but I imagine that you would burn more than that just chewing it? Anyway sherbet in the USA is not the same as what we consider sherbet in the UK. When they talk about sherbet it is a frozen dessert a bit like sorbet rather than the fizzy sugary powder that we refer to.
It is meant to taste of orange, lemon and lime and it does. I am not so sure about the sherbet part, how can a gum taste like an iced dessert? It's quite an artificial fruity taste but I like artificial fruity flavours. It isn't massively different from Juicy Fruit but it's sugar free and more refreshing.
Verdict Rainbow Sherbet Dessert Delights gum is way more exciting that minty gum and it has got me through a few long car journeys this week when I might have been tempted to hit the boiled sweets. I will definitely be trying the other flavours in the range, I really want some Lemon Square flavour!
