Riders Upset Over Community Coach Bus Service to NYC

LIVINGSTON — Riders refer to one surly female dispatcher as “Miss-Information.”

They complain about erratic service, chaotic communication, uncalled-for fare increases, dirty buses and reckless drivers.

A transportation revolution is brewing over bus service in Livingston and West Orange, where fed-up townspeople on the No. 77 route to New York City have only one choice, Community Coach, and signed a petition listing almost 77 reasons why they dislike the service.

Robert Sciarrino/The Star-Ledger - Commuter Todd Adest, right, talks about problems he and other riders have with the service provided by Community Coach as passengers board a Coach bus from West Orange to New York City. Riders have signed a petition listing more than 50 reasons why they are not happy with the service.

As an alternative, there is a movement afoot to bring in a private jitney minivan service after Labor Day.

Todd Adest was moved to create a Facebook community and watchdog page about the No. 77 nearly a year ago after watching a half-empty bus pass a long line of commuters waiting for a ride at the South Mountain arena in West Orange.
