This year’s Human Rights Day was special. There was a meaningful conversation on sexual health and wellness. This, in fact, was a global event. Sexual health as the human right is now a prominent component of human rights. Love Matters and Durex Global Advisory Board (GAB) of Sexual Health and Wellness make it special by endorsing the right to sexual pleasure. Now, this is not a matter of shame at all. In fact, this is quite a serious matter and fits well with Indian rich legacy of art and culture. To commemorate the occasion there was a panel discussion on the theme Right To Sexual Pleasure. The participants in this panel discussion was actually a multi-country event. The event was happening internationally across many cities. These cities include New Delhi, Beirut, Johannesburg, and London. The day was same for it. It was on December 11 to mark Human Rights Day.

The moderator for Delhi chapter’s panel discussion was none other than Vithika Yadav. She is the founder of Love Matters india and a member of Durex Global Advisory Board for Sexual Health and Wellbeing. The hall of full with people from various streams of life and different age groups. The eminent panelists were Arushi Singh, Pleasure and Sexual Health Advocate, The Pleasure Project; Nidhi Goyal, Sexuality and Disability, Sexual Health Advocate, UNAIDS Head; and Smit from Durex India. Probably this was one of the most interactive panel discussions. The panelists were academicians, human rights lawyers, researchers, and sexual rights activists. The discussion was on the content and meaning of sexual pleasure from various angles and perspectives. There were many key points under discussion. Those points include global policies on the right to sexual pleasure around various spectra like sexuality, disability, culture, religion, and individuality.

Right To Sexual Pleasure Is a Matter of Discussion

As Vithika from Love Matters says, “We live in a country where talking about sex and sexuality is still considered taboo. The objective of holding these series of events around the globe is to promote dialogues and discussions around positive sexuality in the context of human rights and sexual health, non-discrimination, and freedom from violence. Through this event we aim to drive conversations around right to sexual pleasure, in the context of positive sexuality, gender and body diversity, disability, culture, religion, sex work, youth sexuality, non-discrimination and many more less talked about topics from a multidisciplinary perspective. Our association with Durex will surely help reach out to the right audience and provide a platform globally to put our country related issues in the forefront.”

In fact, you can access their (Love Matters’) FaceBook page for further insights on this not for profit organization. Overall, it was quite an intense and informative discusion on right to sexual pleasure and similar topics.
