Road Tripping in Austin

Monday was a perfect morning for a road trip. Bright sun and clear skies as Guinness and I looked forward to a fun couple of days in Kyle and Austin. My allergies had gotten the better of me the day before, but thanks to some Claritin I was breathing juuuuuuuust fine. It's exactly 3 hours from my door to Pamela's, and I gotta admit I do enjoy that drive.

A really good spot for chillin when the weather is nice is Doc's Backyard. A few months back Mark and Luisa introduced us to that place and it was a good idea again. Lots of Texas beers on tap, good grub, and you can't go wrong with dominoes. Pamela had the avocado egg rolls I think. All I remember is they tasted delicious. I had the pork carnitas sliders and they went perfect with the Pecan Porter straight out of Austin. Local craft beers will make a believer out of me every time.

Hmm, what can I order that Eric will enjoy finishing for me since I never finish my plate?..

We left Doc's and headed to our other go-to spot which was just a couple minutes drive away, Alamo Drafthouse. The Equalizer was our pick and during the previews I realized Pamela had out-beered me. I had an easy Tecate which is normally just fine. Nice, easy, refreshing, but not when your girlfriend orders a Breckenridge Vanilla Porter that was almost as good as the movie. In fact, stop everything you are doing and go watch this movie. (Finish reading this blog first, then go watch it). It was friggin great. Did I mention the awesomeness of watching Denzel Hayes Washington on the big screen with a delicious beer in your hand? (After the Tecate I upgraded to the Vanilla Porter like a champ). Smooth was Denzel's middle name in this one (besides Hayes). Not as intense as he was in Training Day, but even more brutal. After watching that I wanted to equalize everything. Definitely happy with that movie choice.

The Tecate sits shamefully in the shadows.

We left Drafthouse and headed to the Hula Hut. Great spot on the water and especially great when you time it like we did and arrive just before sunset. We couldn't have planned this day better.

Ahh, much better setting for the Tecate. Now we're talkin.

As if that wasn't enough, we hit up Barnes and No Dave and Buster's cuz I LOVE BARNES AND NOB DAVE AND BUSTER'S!!! For whatever reason I always call it Barnes and Nobles. No idea why but it never fails. We killed it there. Tickets galore. I'm pretty sure people were staring at us as we were wayyyyyy too excited, but in our defense the beers were kicking in, and, again, we were killing it.

No one Doodle Jumps like Pamela.

From Dave and Buster's we headed to this soccer pub called Mister Tramps. They have free pizza after midnight when you order a pitcher but we got so lost in all their craft beers that we never actually got to the free pizza. We will also never go back to that place cuz it's now 2 for 2 in getting us into really weird arguments lol. First time around it was on square footage of houses and this time it was on breast cancer awareness. Seriously. Oh well. We were fine the next day and enjoyed our usual late lunch at Casa Maria's and then back to her cozy couch and some Princess Bride until I had to pack it up and drive back home. Absolutely perfectly planned Monday Funday if I do say so myself.

My name is Inigo Montoya. The devil possess me. Prepare to die.

And now for no reason except that a friend discovered this for me a couple days ago is Dolly Parton's Jolene slowed down to 33 rpms making it seriously awesome. Trust me. Enjoy.
