Anyone that knows me knows the fact that I absolutely LOVE wine.  I’ve garnered that reputation around my friends and family so when I heard about Lucky Supermarkets having a Buy 4 Save 10% on their wine section, I had to stop in and see their offerings.

Since moving to wine country I have gotten to know about the wineries in the area focusing primarily in the Sonoma area, and I was also curious to see what Lucky Supermarkets had, and if they had a decent selection including the local wineries in the area.

What did I find out?  Yes, they HAD a great selection, a complete aisle dedicated to wine with a few displays around the area too.  Local wineries from Ravenswood to Beringer to Robert Mondavi to St. Francis and many more.  That made me INCREDIBLY happy knowing the wineries in the area were being represented.  I mean, around here, a lot of the tasting rooms close around 4:30 so if you have a craving for a certain wine after work hours it’s nice to know that Lucky Supermarkets have you covered.  What did I end mix-and-matching?

You can see my selection above from Wilson Creek’s Almond Champagne, Robert Mondavi’s Chardonnay to 7 Deadly Zins (Old Vine Zin) from the Lodi Appellation area to Mirassou’s Pinot Noir, and an additional bottle of Turning reFresh Red Moscato.  All of these wines are California wines representing different California growing regions.  A little touch of sweet with some bolder, darker reds.

But the key to having good wine is having a decent meal to pair it with.  Lucky Supermarkets had a GREAT ad this week with their Pick 5 for 25 Meat Sale.  You could pick out Steaks, Chicken, Pork Loins, Turkey Meat and more, and for just 25 dollars create a week’s worth of meals.  I grabbed a variety of meat: chicken, pork loins, steaks, and a pound of turkey meat.

And quickly ran home to begin preparing my meal.  My slow cooker to the rescue.  I began peeling up the carrots and potatoes:

And decided on a Pork Loin Roast.

Ingredients Needed:

6 Medium Size Carrots

6 Medium Size Potatoes

2 Pork Loins

Directions:

Pull out your crock pot and insert the two pork loins into bottom of slow cooker.  Peel carrots and potatoes, insert over Pork Loins. Add Spice as needed and let cook on high for 4 hours, or if you do this earlier in the day, on low so it cooks the entire day while you’re at work, or running errands.

And the delicious meal in the slow cooker?

Now the question lies in what wine pairs well with a Roast Pork Loin.  The answer is that a variety go nicely with this dish, but what I chose that evening was Mirassou’s Pinot Noir.  The wine complemented the dish quite well bringing out the flavors of the meat.  The Pinot also complemented well with the adjacent salad that was created for the meal:

The meal was a complete success as everyone gave back raving feedback therefore making it a GREAT evening.  We easily finished off our bottle of Pinot Noir, and enjoyed the rest of the evening together enjoying a piece of pumpkin pie for dessert.
