Routines.

Posted on the 09 August 2012 by Mikidemann @mikidemann

Jared and I got into this long conversation last night, that we have had many times before. Jared and I have very different personalities, and that may be one reason we work so well together. One thing that is always going to be different with us is our routines. He is one of those people who likes to have lots of things going on, something planned for every minute to keep him entertained. He likes to have a very full schedule.

I am one of those “stop and smell the roses” type of people. I go to work, and then I don’t know what I will do for the rest of the day. It’s like an open page, and I can fill it in as I go. Maybe I will stop at the store, maybe I’ll take a walk, maybe I will work late. I really don’t like to make plans, because I have a nasty habit of wanting to break them. Even if it’s something I like, I just don’t like to plan it out. I like to do things spur of the moment or plan them for the day of. {outside of vacations} I really would rather get a call at 5, and go get sushi at 7. Not plan the event for a week later. I just like to have my nights open, and to kind of do as I please. If I want to clean or do laundry I will, If I want to go out to dinner I will, If a movie just came out - maybe I want to see it. Jared on the other hand comes home from work every day and works out for about and hour or 2. Then he relxes for about an hour, and we eat dinner. Then after fall asleep, he practices guitar for who knows how long. He is happy doing those things, and like to accomplish a certain weight level, a certain skill level, those things make him happy.

In my eyes routines are boring. I don’t want to do the same thing day in and day out. To Jared routines are a goal, they help accomplish things, and make him feel better about his time spent. We are able to meet in the middle and make each other happy, while allowing ourselves to thrive in our routines. I just thought it was so interesting how different 2 people in a marriage can be, even with the simple stuff, like what you do when you’re off work.

I guess more than anything I am just curious how other work.

Are you a routine type or more in the moment?

What about for those of you in relationships, does it affect you?
