Ryu’s 29th Birthday! ♊

Posted on the 28 May 2013 by Kimeetay @Kimee_Tay

2 weeks ago, I was so hyped I updated my blog twice a day. In contrast, last whole week, I only updated my blog once, and that was a Monday. Now I feel kinda guilty for not updating my blog for a whole week! And I also realized that running your own blog is not a piece of cake, it’s more like baking a whole cake. Haha.

Random picture of Ryu with ghostly figure of dad in the background. Haha! Anyway, last Saturday (25th May 2013) was Ryu’s 29th birthday! Ryu is my brother-in-law a.k.a Tiff the Big Sis’ husband. Ryu happens to be a professional Yoga and Latin instructor! So all of us (his family and Tiff the Big Sis’ family) had dinner at this place called Maju Palace Restaurant. This restaurant is located on Level 5 of Maju Junction Mall.

We arrived at the restaurant at around 7 pm. There was actually a wedding ceremony going on at that restaurant that night! In fact, there were a lot of restaurants hosting wedding dinners that night that initially it was hard for us to book a room for Ryu’s birthday dinner. Apparently, Maju Palace happens to be one of the top Chinese Restaurants in Klang Valley serving cuisine that is pork-free!

The ambiance and the atmosphere of the place is WOW! To be honest, I have never heard of this place before and wasn’t expecting much from this restaurant. Maju Palace has 5 private dining rooms of various sizes which offer patrons a scenic view of the Kuala Lumpur skyline. We booked a single table private dining room, and from my seat, I saw this!

003

Sort of my first time seeing the KL tower from such a close distance! Best thing about this restaurant is that the complex provides about 1500 covered parking lots! So convenient hor! Haha. The decorations in the restaurant were all really nice and classy, mostly flowers. LOL. I totally didn’t take any photos of the place because there were so many people (due to the wedding dinner). Geez, what a lame reason. Haha.

Anyway, the room that we booked also comes with a karaoke set. At first, I was determined that I didn’t want to join in in the karaoke. That’s cause I was kinda in a bad mood at first. But great Lord! I think I conquered the mic a lot. Haha! I suck at singing but secretly love karaoke sessions. LOL.

Some places offer great ambience but sucky food. Some places offer great food but sucky ambience. However, at Maju Palace, you get both GREAT ambience and AMAZING food! We didn’t order any set meals (even though it’s more worthwhile) because Dad the Daddy and Tiff the Big Sis can’t eat seafood.

For starters, we have SOUP! I ❤ soup. Haha! Each of us have our own individual serving of soup, and I ordered myself a Pumpkin Chicken Soup which was served in a pumpkin!
004The soup was splendid! You gotta scrape the sides the get the pumpkin flesh. There were also bits and pieces of wintermelon in it and some other stuff in which I have no idea what it’s called. Here’s a question, what happen to all the pumpkin in the middle that they removed to form the pumpkin bowl? Haha!

005Next, there was BABY LOBSTER! This was my first. Jon the Bro said I was lucky cause my lobster was mostly meat while his was not. LOL. I thought it was really yummy! And fyi, the lobster head is just a garnish! Not for you to consume. Haha! Jon the Bro thought it was edible and bit on it, the captain saw and said ‘ei! That’s not for eating. That’s just to indicate that it’s lobster.’ ☜(ˆ▽ˆ)

006Tadaa! This is ‘something’ Smoked CHICKEN with a little bit of lettuce. Haha! This was our first ‘shared’ dish. Get it? Cause all of us had our own individual soup and lobster. The chicken, in my opinion, was perfectly cooked! You know how some places you go to and their chicken is just bloody at the bones? I super duper hate that. This ‘something’ Smoked Chicken was really delicious, don’t know bout the others but I ate mine with lettuce. LOL

007And here we have LAMB! I don’t have much to comment about this except that the lamb tasted a lot like meatballs. Haha! Plus I don’t really like the burnt parts. Well I guess the lamb was alright.

008TOFU! Kimee ❤ tofu! Before the tofu came, there was a vege dish but I was so engrossed with ‘exercising my voice box’ I didn’t pay much attention to the food. Haha! This tofu picture also I steal from Tiff the Big Sis’ Facebook. As I have mentioned, I wasn’t paying attention to the dishes so I forgot how this tofu tasted. But I believe it’s just a s good as the other dishes!

009Moving on, we have NOODLE! There’s a proper name for this noodle but I have no idea what it is. Pfft. The noodle was nice! The downside of this dish (to me lah) was that it was a really SMALL helping. Haha! I’m actually a really big eater. The noodle was the last of all the dishes! *burp*

After a hearty meal, there’s dessert!

010Cute lil ‘paus’! If I’m not mistaken, these paus are specially for birthday occasions. Sometimes it’s just plain paus, but these are filled with lotus paste. The giant pau is actually empty on the inside and four tiny paus are stuffed inside. Haha!

011Jelly birthday cake! Tiff the Big Sis bought this with a Groupon voucher. She never buys anything at the actual price. Haha! One thing about jelly cake is that the jelly is bound to run from its original place. As you can see in the picture above, the alphabets are all not it their respective places. Initially, one of the three hearts on the cake fell of the cake. Pfft. Haha! So buy jelly cake at your own risk alright. LOL.

012Dairy free chocolate cupcakes made by me! First attempt baking dairy free cupcakes. Dad the Daddy and Tiff the Big Sis, besides seafood, the also can’t consume dairy products due to so and so reason. Tiff the Big Sis said that Ryu loves chocolate, so I combined 2 cupcake recipes and whipped these cupcakes up. ツ

013

All the desserts on the table! Yum ~~~

014

Mandatory family picture during family dinner! Haha! From L-R : Mel the Lil Sis, Popo the Grandma, Ryu the BIL, Jon the Bro, Tiff the Big Sis, Mom the Mommy, ME, Ryu’s Mom, Dad the Daddy, Ryu’s Dad. Why Ryu’s Dad has that expression on his face? I have no idea myself. Probably bad timing. LOL.

015

They look so cute together right ❣

016

Make a wish and blow!

017

Suddenly everyone disappears and he cuts the cake. LOL.

018

Everyone got a plate specially arranged by Ryu. Haha!

019

Happy 29th Birthday Ryu ❣

I would definitely love to eat at Maju Palace again! In fact, I think I want to host my wedding here next time. Haha! That’s because I have a lot of Muslim friends and Chinese pork-free cuisine is the perfect thing. LOL. I mentioned somewhere above that Ryu is a professional Yoga and Latin instructor and so if you’re interested, feel free to contact him ;)
