I'm so excited to finally reveal to you a project which I've painstakingly held hush for some time now - I have been selected to become an ambassador for H&M!
When I first received the email, I was in fact certain there had been some mistake; I am no fashion blogger, I don't have a big blog or a wide audience, I'm just a lowly little writer plugging her thoughts into the internet. But after they said I'd been chosen because of my way with words, a small smile began to creep across my face and excitement blossomed in my chest. It was finally happening, after a year and half trying to establish myself as a writer, I was actually starting to be recognised.
Cue what ended up being one of the most surreal days of my entire life where I was whisked into the VICE Magazine Headquarters in London, had my hair makeup and nails done by professional makeup artists and styled by VICE's Fashion Editor with H&M's new range, and had a day-long photoshoot alongside bloggers who have been my idols since I can remember: Zoe London, Pretty Sickly/I Dress Myself and Stamp The Wax.
I'd followed these bloggers since I even knew what the blogosphere was, and had always held them in such incredibly high esteem and respect, and here we now were, side by side, as... (dare I say it?) equals.
And they showed me an entirely new insight into what it's actually like to be a blogger on their level, and I sat listening in wide-eyed wonder as they explained what their lives were like and the kind of things they had been able to do just from starting a blog.
We have three more shoots to do with the rest of H&M's A/W range, and this is honestly one of the most incredible opportunities I have ever had in my entire life. I'm still pinching myself that it's actually happening.
The photos will be posted on H&M's new Inspiration Tumblr page, alongside our contributions as bloggers. As I am not a conventional blogger, I decided my contribution as a blogger should not be conventional either, so I presented my part as a writer.
Instead of an outfit post, I wrote a short piece of creative writing based on the collection, which can be found here.
And you know, I think the fact that I seemingly don't deserve this makes it even more profound. I'm no top blogger, I don't even blog fashion, I don't have a huge blog or a massive audience, I'm not skinny and I don't look like a model, I'm just a humble writer with dreams as big as cities.
And this is all still happening.
Because out of all the things I don't have, the one thing which propels me onward daily to work hard to make my dreams become a reality, is determination, ambition and astoundingly (possibly dangerously) unfaltering belief that I WILL make this happen for me.
And it's moments like this when I realize I've actually started to make my dreams come true.
Choose to live a remarkable life.
