Scary Messages for Political Party

Posted on the 17 May 2019 by Suzanne Robinson @mummy2twinsblog

The federal election is tomorrow and as you might have guessed you cannot travel or go anywhere without being bombarded with info about a political party.

I was playing with Alexander at the front of the house yesterday and I noticed a car pull up and one person get out with a bunch of flyers in their hand. I didn't even think that it might be advertising for the election, at first I thought they might be selling something.

The person doing the pamphlet delivery handed me a flyer. I looked at it and was rather taken back at first.

I made sure to read it all and understand their message, however, this is a message I don't agree with and I find very dangerous. Scary actually!

The main messages of the IMOP Party are:
  • Say no to immunisations
  • Say no to Fluoride in drinking water

Both of these political messages are horrible, tell people to say no to medicine that can save your life, oh and don't have fluoride in drinking water!!!!! Without fluoride, many people would have holes in their teeth or none at all! Fluoride helps your teeth and protects everyone.

"What is fluoride and what is fluoridation? Fluoride is a mineral that is found naturally in all water sources, including fresh water and sea water. It is also found naturally in a wide range of food items including tea, fish and rice and is a normal part of the diet. When present in drinking water at the optimum level, or used in dental treatments, fluoride can promote dental health by helping to prevent tooth damage and decay.

Water fluoridation is simply the process of adding fluoride to the water supply to an optimum level that allows everyone to enjoy its beneficial effects.

The optimum fluoride level in public drinking water supplies, which is less than 1 milligram per litre, is a safe and effective way of helping to protect teeth against dental decay". (https://healthywa.wa.gov.au/Articles/F_I/Fluoridated-drinking-water)

In regards to being immunised, measles is a disease that Australia thought we were rid of, however, that is not the case. Currently, there have been 92 cases in 2019 already.

Many people who have not been immunisesd or are too young to get the vaccine have caught this very illness. Plus travelling to other countries might mean you could contract this illness if you or others have not been immunised.

The Measles immunisation is easy to get and safe to do so. Immunisations keeps us safe due to herd immunity, the more people that are immunised means that the more people are protected. Check the health nsw data sheet for measles info here.

Quick Facts are taken from the WHO (World Health Organisation) website:

  • Immunization prevents illness, disability and death from vaccine-preventable diseases including cervical cancer, diphtheria, hepatitis B, measles, mumps, pertussis (whooping cough), pneumonia, polio, rotavirus diarrhoea, rubella and tetanus.
  • Global vaccination coverage remains at 85%, with no significant changes during the past few years.
  • Uptake of new and underused vaccines is increasing.
  • An additional 1.5 million deaths could be avoided, however, if global immunization coverage improves.

I am a person that is pro vaccination and also believe that fluoride helps us with our teeth. I will not be voting for this party ever! I also cannot understand why you would think this is a good thing to promote or even vote for? Why is influencing others to not get vaccinated a good thing????

Medicine and science are improving our lives all the time and preventing illness and disease is a big thing to avoid. Why would you want to risk this to you or your family? Or get others sick too?

I know we have the right to speak our minds but convincing others to not get immunised is just horrible in my opinion. What do you think? Why does the government allow parties like this to spread dangerous messages like not getting immunised? Is there anything that will not be allowed? If so why is this okay?

As a parent, your prime job is your child's welfare, and mainly making sure they are well and stay healthy. Basically, don't die. This party goes against the human instinct to stay well and healthy, if you had a way to stay healthy wouldn't you do it? Make sure to get immunised to ensure you don't get diseases that are preventable.

I am sure regardless of kids you don't want to get a case of chicken pox or measles? Or drink water that doesn't help your teeth.

Australia is doing pretty well in regards to children being immunised, however telling people that they need to not be is worrying.

The below text is taken from The Department of Health in regards to fluoride and how it helps with preventing dental decay:

"Water fluoridation began in Australia in the 1960's and has made a significant contribution to improving the oral health of Australians. Along with good oral hygiene and a healthy diet, it can help prevent dental decay.

The National Health and Medical Research Council's (NHMRC's) most recent review on the safety of water fluoridation concluded that, at current Australian levels, it is a safe and as efficient way to reduce tooth decay in children and adults. There was no evidence that water fluoridation at Australian levels is associated with other health effects such as thyroid dysfunction or cancer.

Water fluoridation has been endorsed by leading organisations in Australia and internationally including the World Health Organization, Australian Medical Association, American Academy of Pediatrics and the Australian Dental Association.

The national health position on water fluoridation is set out in the Healthy Mouths Healthy Lives: Australia's National Oral Health Plan 2015-2024, found on the Council of Australian Governments Health Council website." What is going to be next on the list? Will it be folate?

Folate has been added to bread to increase our B Vitamin levels. Folate is needed for cells to divide and is extremely important in pregnancy. (Folate prevents birth defects known as neural tube defects, such as spina bifida.)

Do you think that there are some political parties that shouldn't be? Oh and I'm not voting for IMOP Party ever in my life.
