“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’”
Martin Luther King Jr.
Today as the U.S. remembers one of our greatest civil rights leaders, the day is also recognized as a day of service. And with the political climate of late, it feels like we’ve never needed the reminder more.
The truly beautiful thing about service is, it can happen any day at any time. It doesn’t need to happen on a holiday or in a formal volunteer capacity. You can serve others simply by taking a moment to remember their humanity (and your own).
It sounds simple enough, but I think we all know that doesn’t necessarily make it easy. That’s why we have to push each other and expect more from ourselves, not just on national days of service, but every day.
None of us is perfect, but together we can be better.
“Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into a friend.”
Martin Luther King Jr.
