In the photo with me, looking photo ready, is Veronica from shethinx.com. We took this picture right after my purchase of a pair of Thinx underwear. Now I don't make a habit of talking about my underwear, my period, or other topics that fall in the TMI category. However, I think Thinx is worthy of a mention on Chasing Joy.
The cuting edge technology, and stylish designs are great but that is not what led me to make my purchase. If you take note of Veronica's shirt in our Instagram photo you'll see that it says, I Bleed For Female Empowerment. When I wear Thinx I can now make the same claim. Thinx estimates that 100 million girls around the world are falling behind and even dropping out of school because they do not have access to the feminine hygiene products that most of us take for granted. During what is referred to in some areas as their "week of shame" girls stay home from school because they don't have proper menstrual sanitation. This information was kind of mind blowing for me. It made me realize just how challenging being a woman can be and how lucky I am to have access to my pick of hygiene products from tampons, to pads, and even those weird cup things that I don't think I'll every try.
Thinx is on a mission to put and end to the "week of shame" and empower girls to continue with their lives including attending classes. Thinx provides girls and women in the developing world with washable, reusable pads, allowing them to live their lives fully, and shamelessly, every day of the month. For every pair of Thinx purchased, 7 washable reusable pads are are produced for a girl in a developing country. That is why I whipped out my debit card.

If you notice in the Instagram picture above I am holding 2 pair of Thinx. That's because after I made my purchase I let the Thinx brand contacts at the event know that I was a blogger. They gave me the 2nd pair free so that I could review them here on the blog. So here is my review. They Work!!!
For my review I wore the Hiphugger style. These offer the most protection. They are the most absorbent holding up to 6 teaspoons and have the Quadtech technology all the way up the back of the panty. I wore them towards the end of my period when it was pretty light. I wore them at work with no other protection and then again over night with no other protection. By no other protection I mean I did not use a tampon, pad, or liner; just the Thinx by themselves. They worked and my clothes, bed sheets, and pride remained intact. The moisture wicking worked good too. I did not feel wet (sorry if that's TMI).
What I did not love about the Thinx is minor compared to the fact that they worked, are cute, and empower girls. I did not love that you cannot dry Thinx in the dryer. I often use a laundry service to wash and dry my clothes. Not being able to throw them in the dryer means I have to had wash them and that is one of my least favorite things to do.
I highly recommend you give Thinx a try. As a matter of fact I so want to spread the word about Thinx that I am going to giveaway a $30 Thinx gift certificate for a reader to get their own pair. Enter the giveaway by completing the raffelcopter form below.
