Shoulders Slump from Exhaustion... of a Different Kind

Posted on the 10 October 2014 by Juliejordanscott @juliejordanscot

My shoulders slumped, the curves from my neck to my elbows seemed to flatten under the weight of a steam roller. “Exhaustion! I need a pillow. Water! Chocolate!”

I hadn’t run a marathon or even a half marathon or even a 5K.

I wasn’t fresh from a Zumba class nor had I worked out at the gym.

My grueling, shoulder slouching experience?

Writing a poem.

I know. This may sound nutty but I wrote a poem today that took every ounce of energy and with an hour to go before I need to pick up child #1 I am seriously contemplating taking a power nap.

Writing can be both exhilarating and exhausting.

Right now I hover on the far side of exhausting.

I feel courageous to express this fact just like I felt courageous hitting “publish” on my poetry blog this morning.

This is the poem that exhausted me and dared me to hit PUBLISH.

The responses so far are favorable.

Perhaps I am causing a napping riot for readers as well.

Speaking of - I am off.
