Skoda

Skoda
I phoned to book my car in because the wipers had stopped working. Initially I was told my car owuld need to be in for a few days, but after some discussion it was booked for a date a little in the future on the understanding that the problem would be addressed within a day.
The car was dropped off first thing and the $$55 fee for looking at it paid.
I'd heard nothing by 1pm so rang to find out when I could collect my reparied car. I was told that they hadn't started looking at the car but it would be next.
A while later I was called to be told it was tthe motor and that it would cost ££228 for a new one. I said order it and I'll bring the car back in the morning to get the work done. I thought it was pricey but need's must.
Shortly I got a call to say that if I was planning to take the car away - I was that was always the arrangement, then I'd have to pay the $$228 now as the part was non returnable (skoda parts to a skoda garage?) And then the fee would be around 150 in addion. This was now looking like more than 400 and the seemingly variable rate was concerning me .
ALso one of the callerrs - now I can't remember which - started iwth a litany of other things that were wrong with the car and that they'd repair for me. None of which I asked them to looko at.
This salvo opened wiht "The car hasn't been serviced since 2011." Not true, it was servicedt he previous week, only not by Skoda.
The list included all manner of things I was already aware of such as a blocked rear squirter and worn brake pads. No, thank you I said. I had to say it several times until he got the messgae.
By now I was unhappy wiht what was going on. I felt I was being pressured into having things done I didn't want and I was concerend that the bill was mounting by the minute.
"Actually," I said. "I just want to get my car back. Ill get it fixed somewhere else."
What followed were more than half a dozen calls of varying degrees of ludicrousness.
First they tried to insistt I paid for the 'non-returnable' part.
Then they told me I couldn't drive without wipers. I konw it's not a good idea, but it wasn't raining and need's must.
THey said all the other things needed done.
Finally they said they couldn't lock the car with the key in it - for my husband to collect with hte spare key.
Eventually they agreed to release my car as long as I took full responsiblity for it.
And the final twist in the tale was that there was nothing wrong with the wiper motor at all. the fault was in the car's computer - somethng you'd have thought Skoda would have been able to diagnose quite easily. Makes me wonder whether they'd have only noticed that was the problem AFTER I'd paid for a motor adn had it fitted.
Considering a replacement car I would automaticaly have thought of Skoda, but not any longer.
