Sleeping with the Technology

Guys, I’m cheating on my boyfriend.

He isn’t the only one that’s been occupying my bed.

(oh la la! could it be him?)

I know it is bold to come out on the social web and admit it, but I need to confess:  I’ve been sleeping with my iPhone.

(sorry generic internet hottie)

And it gets worse. I sleep around too. Not only do I sleep with my iPhone, I sleep with my iPad as well. Sometimes I sleep with both of them at the same time.

Every night I lay down, I plug in my phone next to me, set my alarm, and then fall asleep to the sound of Facebook updates and emails being sent. It’s a disgusting habit.

Sometimes, I do it even when my boyfriend is there too. I cheat right in front of him! I take time away from him, turn my back, and scroll.  It’s like my modern day security blanket.

But I KNOW I’m not the only one. YOU do it too.

Now, maybe it’s not as bad as thumbsucking, but it’s bad. These new-fangled technological doohickeys are taking us away from being normal. They are taking up space in our beds and space in our minds. Imagine, the last thing you see is a friend’s repost of “The 50 Most Awkward Pregnancy Portraits Ever,” what kind of dreams is THAT going to lead to? And why can’t we just close our eyes and call it a day? Are our minds really that wired?

I’m saying it again. IT IS BAD.

So tonight, plug your phone in across the room. And if you’re sleeping next to someone, talk to them instead of emailing/texting/chatting/whatever-other-things-happen-on-phones. For a hot second, before going to bed, don’t be staring at a screen. Just be at peace. And if you’re not sleeping next to someone, there are these things called BOOKS that I’ve heard are pretty good.

So are you with me? Are you sleeping with technology?

Let’s talk.

Happy Thursday y’all!
