Slip Slidin’ Away, #740

Today marks the last session of camp.  I can’t even believe how fast it has gone by.  I must say this every summer, but today, as I am writing this blog, it seems like the fastest summer in history.  It is true…the public schools have short-changed our children by making summer two weeks shorter than when I was a kid.  Don’t superintendents know that summer is supposed to be 3 months long….not 2-1/2 months?

I feel my life slowly changing around me.  I’ve had meetings and phone calls with my various schools setting up my start dates and discussing curriculum.  We’ve ordered the kids’ back-to-school lunchboxes and backpacks online, and I’m trying to work time into my schedule to take them clothes shopping.  I’ve been reviewing the “supply list” for both my kids to bring to the orientation day the day before school starts.  That day is only two weeks away!  There is so much to do, and frankly…..only a short amount of time to do it in.

I am scratching my head in wonder today.  Summer is just about over for Tucsonans, and it is a really melancholy feeling….not the best way to start out a Monday.  I guess I should live in the present and enjoy camp for the two more weeks while I have it.  The good news is that it will be back again next year!

My song of the day today is an old Simon and Garfunkel favorite.  ”Slip Slidin’ Away” feels perfect today, because it is the perfect song to describe how I am feeling about my beloved summer.  Click HERE to hear it on Youtube and to see Simon & Garfunkel live in their 1981 Central Park concert.  The song and camp both fill me with the happiest memories that I treasure.  I guess there’s always the memories to hold onto.  Those memories always make me smile.
