Small Steps to Happiness

Posted on the 25 September 2015 by Vidyasury @vidyasury

Ever feel unfulfilled? You're not the only one!

Happiness: it's elusive and sometimes can feel out of reach. Not to worry though, there's plenty of information out there for those who need it, and small steps towards improving your happiness and your overall mood.

To begin with, I'd recommend widening your social circle. Community is a great mood-upper. Whether you're a natural extrovert or a total wallflower, you can still develop the skills for creating close relationships. It is up to you to use them to gather loads of friends or just a few.

How can you attract people and appear approachable? Eye contact

Try maintaining eye contact with those you connect and ask them fun questions about themselves. Be a listener, and actually listen.

Touch

It also helps to touch people and create physical contact. Just a gentle touch can convey a lot more than words can, depending on the situation.

Tell stories

Narrate yours and encourage others to tell their own. So sometimes you might find the conversation is boring. But don't worry, maybe it's just the wrong person. You don't have to feel the pressure to like and be liked by everyone you meet. Try again with someone else or maybe just switch to a different conversation topic.

Exercise

Try to get around 90 minutes of exercise per week, which can be split into 3.30 minute sessions throughout the week. If the gym isn't your thing, try walking or cycling places, or taking up a fun exercise class like Zumba, which is the "in" thing right now! Me, I love to just pick up my camera and set off on a really brisk walk. I keep a destination in mind so that I can get the physical activity when I reach there and on the way back enjoy clicking pictures.

Meditate

Fancy learning how to meditate? It sounds hard but it really isn't. You can learn how to meditate easily just by concentrating on your breath. Listen to yourself breathe in and breathe out again steadily until it fills up your mind. Set an alarm and practice for 5 minutes a day and feel the stress melt away!Bonus? Loads of health benefits.

Chill out

It's important to make sure that you always set aside time for yourself to indulge in something you enjoy. Me-time! Whether you want to watch some evening TV, get lost in a trashy romance novel or play on new bingo sites online in order to win some extra cash, the choice is unlimited. In fact, the elders in our apartment complex have a bingo night every week and have so much fun. If you enjoy playing online, check out sites like Bingosweets.com to find out about all the best online deals available to you.

Travel

Make a trip to a place you've always wanted to go. Even a weekend can be very energizing!

Happiness and sadness are all a part of life. It is up to us to make our lives enjoyable. As I love to say, Happiness is a DIY project and it is worth the effort. Try some of the steps outlined above. Just a couple of small changes can make all the difference!
