So to celebrate there 170 years; ES Mode fashion school here in Paris are holding an exhibition at the Palais Royal.
I went along this morning to see what it was all about, to find an interesting display of the schools history. From traditional corsetry and 19th century fashion magazines to this years best graduate work, the display told an impressive story of the school.
I found the history & corestery the most interesing naturally, And found this really cool hand drawing of the different shapes of a womans body. Hourglass figures from plump to petite, with flat chest, square or round shoulders….you name the body type it was in this sketch. Sooo cool, ive never seen something like it before.
These days at fashion School you mostly cut to a standard size and draw a standard, elongated, slim figure, but back in the day they catered to everyone. I love it!
These days model sizes are scary. Models are getting younger and younger in order to achieve that stick figure and just a couple of years ago a model dropped dead at a runway show, because she had basically starved herself to death. Where does it end. I have made the decision not to work with models that are underweight (according to the body mass indicator) and have had my photos critizied because the girl is chunky on the legs or whatever, but thats what real women look like. They are no less beautiful just because they are the correct weignt for there hight.
