Readers all over the world may still be caught in the debate of ebooks vs. print books. I guess, this debate is not going to fade away soon. But it is also true that, while the print books have many loyalists, the popularity of ebooks is steadily rising.

When it comes to e-book reading, Kindle devices are the clear champions as the preferred e-readers of millions of book lovers.

Advantages of Kindle e-readers:

Different kinds of Kindle devices are available to fit different budgets. The biggest advantage of Kindle e-readers is that their display is glare-free. So, it does not reflect the surrounding. Even if you use a Kindle in bright sunlight, its display would still appear as clear as a paper.

Out of all Kindle e-readers, Kindle Paperwhite is said to be most popular. It is a slim, light-weight device that makes reading ebooks comfortable for eyes. Its E Ink technology makes reading an e-book as comfortable as reading from a paper. Unlike the basic model of Kindle e-reader, Kindle Paperwhite (and higher Kindle models) comes with tiny LED lights illuminating the display. So, books on Kindle Paperwhite can be read even in dark. In smartphones etc. the display is back-lit. So its light falls on eyes directly and is more harmful. But in Kindle, the light falls on the display, so is comfortable for the eyes comparatively.

On 16th October, 2018, Amazon unveiled a newer version of Kindle Paperwhite. While it retains all the popular Kindle features like Whispersync, Word Wise, X-Ray, it comes with some new specialties as well.

Highlights of the All-New Kindle Paperwhite (10th Gen):

The All-New Kindle Paperwhite (10th Gen) is Water Resistant:

The biggest highlight of the All-New Kindle Paperwhite (10th Gen) is that it is water-resistant. Till now, only more expensive Kindle devices had the water-resisting capabilities. It's great that now, even Paperwhite can withstand splashes. It is IPX8 rated water-resistant. That is, it can withstand immersion in up to two meters of fresh water for up to 60 minutes. But remember, water-resistance does not mean waterproof. So, although you can read the ebooks on it while in a bathtub, don't leave it lying there!

Appearance:

The all-new Kindle Paperwhite is slimmer and lighter than its predecessor. As I am a user of Kindle Paperwhite (6th Gen), I can tell you that even older versions are quite slim, light-weight, and comfortable to hold in one hand. But an improvement is always better, isn't it? The All-New Kindle Paperwhite (10th Gen) is only 8.18mm thick and weighs 182g. Most paperback books weigh twice more than this.

It has a six-inch, high resolution 300 ppi glare-free display that reads like paper. Its five LED bulbs give it an adjustable illumination so you can read on it even in dark.

More Storage:

Another highlight of the all-new Kindle Paperwhite is that it now has more storage. It is now available in 8 GB and 32 GB versions. So, you can now store more books on it. Of course, you don't really need to keep your entire library of ebooks stored on your e-reader. Because even if you delete them from your device, the books you have bought remain listed in your Kindle library and you can download them back again.

Features:

Like all other Kindle e-readers, the All-New Kindle Paperwhite (10th Gen) also has the popular Kindle features like Whispersync, X-Ray, Word Wise, Smart Lookup etc. Whispersync helps in synchronizing your reading progress, notes and highlights across all your Kindle devices, apps, and cloud reader. X-Ray makes it easy to search through the book for a particular character, term, passage etc. Features like Word Wise and Smart Lookup help the reader in vocabulary building. Also, since Amazon has acquired Goodreads, all Kindle devices come with Goodreads integration.

New Features:

Besides these old and popular features, certain new features have also been added to Paperwhite. These include an updated Home screen and more text customization options. The Home offers book recommendations based upon the user's reading history. It can now also recommend free books from Kindle Unlimited or Prime Reading.

The reading settings like font, boldness, font size etc. can be set from the main menu on the Home. It is now easier to switch between different settings.

These new features will also be made available to the All-New Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle Paperwhite Gen 6 (released in 2013) via an OTA update.

Availability and Price of the All-New Kindle Paperwhite (10th Gen):

The all-new Kindle Paperwhite (10th Gen) is priced at INR 12,999 for the 8 GB WiFi model and INR 17,999 for the 32 GB model. The 32GB model also comes with 4G. The 8 GB variant will start shipping from November 14, 2018. The 32 GB model's availability date is not yet announced, but it is expected to arrive soon too. Both models are already available for pre-order at Amazon .

Introductory Offer:

As an introductory offer, customers who pre-order the All-New Kindle Paperwhite can avail a free 3-month Kindle Unlimited subscription. KU is like a library card for Kindle ebooks. Once you become a subscribers, you can download a large number of ebooks free of cost.

If you are looking for an e-reader, the All-New Kindle Paperwhite (10th Gen) is a good choice. It may be slightly more expensive than older Paperwhite, but its water-resistance and higher storage capacity make it a better choice for ebook enthusiasts.
