Some Embarrassing Moments in My Life - Day 10

Hmm I know that there have been plenty of embarrassing moments in my life. There have probably more than my fair share and definitely more than enough. I think my mind conveniently blots it out of the memory banks, never to show its embarrassingly ugly face the light of day again.

A few that I can recall are.I was newly married to my husband, about 18 years ago. I remember that whenever Stuart would brush against me at night it would make me jump out of my skin. One night I had a bad dream. I was dreaming of lots of little black bugs crawling on the bed. It was horrible. Stuart chose this moment to touch me, and I literally jumped up, fell backwards off the bed and landed on the floor, hitting my bottom on the window sill on the way down. Oh wow did it hurt! To go from asleep, to ending up on the floor, in pain, in the space of about 2 seconds is just nasty. In the morning I already had a great, big purple, black bruise on my bottom, and it stayed there for months.

Another time was when I was about 7 or 8 in the dentist chair. I know that it is nothing out of the ordinary to say I have always hated the dentist. I was so nervous. I opened my mouth wide for the dentist to look inside my mouth. It was all good until he started to check my back teeth. He had what seemed to me at the time, to have all his fingers in my little mouth. I started to retch. I literally grabbed his arm and pulled his fingers out of my mouth, took off out of the chair and into the waiting room and then proceeded to vomit all over the carpeted floor. Oops!  I embarrassed myself, and I embarrassed my mom too.  When mom asked me what possessed me to do that, I remember saying, with tears streaming down my face, “well he has fat, podgy fingers!” I can laugh a bit about it now. But I still don’t like dentists.Another much more recent experience, that I would really rather forget. But here goes. I was very, very low on fuel, which is my usual way of traveling these days (I blame the exorbitant fuel prices). I was going up a hill nearby, willing the car to get to the top, because I happen to know (don’t ask me how...), that if I get to the top of the hill and then run out of petrol I can coast all the way down the hill, and get within a block and a half of the petrol station. But I never made it to the top of the hill. There I was. Stuck! Half way up the hill, in the middle of all the lanes. I immediately put my hazard lights on, but then I sat there, with cars beeping at me from all directions. I was completely at a loss as to what to do. Then a ray of sunshine beamed down from the sky, onto a white 4 wheel drive, which had stopped in front of me. My saviour, jumped out, and said, “Do you need a tow?" I managed a weak smile and nod. He sprang into action and towed me all the way to the petrol station. I felt like kissing him!
