Something About Christmas

Posted on the 21 December 2012 by Gandbblog @GandBblog
There is something about Christmas that makes you miss the ones that are no longer with you. During Christmas I become joyful because of the spirit of the season, but there comes a time that I am somber as well. I reflect back to those who are no longer with us to celebrate and a little piece of my heart aches for them. Every year since we've been married our lives have changed more and more. This Christmas we live in a new state. This Christmas my niece is here, outside of the womb of course. This Christmas my parents are living in a new city.
Christmases past, I think back to the anticipation. I remember Santa's visits and all of the new things I would incessantly flash in anyone's face who would humor me. I remember hot chocolate, store bought cookies for Santa (we didn't grow up bakers), and being the center of attention (those I liked best, of course). I remember my grandmother making the best potato salad. I remember going to her house and seeing her modest tree all decorated, even if it was just for us kids. I remember not ever thinking that one day I would grow up and everything would be different. My grandmother passed some years back, but the memories never fade. They are there with the spirit of Christmas and childlike anticipation. Let us not forget those who are not with us this Christmas.
