#SouthWestBloggersMeet - My First Blog Meet Experience!

Posted on the 19 November 2013 by Sparklesandstretchmarks @raine_fairy
This blog is mostly full of baby firsts, but this weekend we experienced a Mummy First!
I went along to my very first Blog Meet!
This is something that I've wanted to do for a while...infact myself & Louise from Confessions Of A Secret Shopper arranged one last year but we both ended up unexpectedly pregnant and suffering with terrible morning sickness, so it never happened!
I have my tickets for BritMums Live 2014 all ready & waiting, and so I knew I'd be meeting some fellow bloggers there and I am very much looking forward to it - three of my blog friends are already confirmed as going, and I am so excited to meet them - especially Alex from Bump To Baby as I have been friends with her online for a while and it will be lovely to meet face to face! I'm really hoping that some other very good friends from the blogosphere will be attending too!!!!Nonetheless, not being a particularly confident person the idea of meets always scares me.
When I heard that there was a meet happening right on my doorstep in Exeter, I was excited but terrified!
But I knew I wanted to get past my anxiety and just make sure I went.
So the day arrived, and of course - nothing went my way!
Tyne was poorly, I couldn't find any clean leggings to go with the dress I wanted to wear and everything was a big disaster - I had a strop and insisted I wasn't going.
Luckily Jon stepped in and put his foot down! He ran out to New Look to get me some new leggings, and looked after Tyne while I got ready!
Finally, I was ready to go.

We headed off on our way and - of course  hit loads of traffic on the way in to Exeter!
We eventually arrived - albeit TWO hours late!!! *cringe*
I felt a bit self conscious arriving so late as by that time everybody had already got themselves into little groups, and everyone seemed to know each other....I wish I had been earlier as I think arriving with everybody else makes it easier so that you're all in the same boat and starting to mingle and do introductions at the same time!

The lovely hosts Liza from Glambeautys and Kerry from Lived With Love came right over to welcome me, and were absolutely lovely!

In the end, I was so glad that I went along!
They held a charity raffle, and I managed to bag myself the fab prize of some Nanshy Make Up Brushes! (I actually won 2 more times but I didn't want to take prizes when other people hadn't won, so I just stuck to my one!! My good deed for the day - amazed at my luck though!!! 3 wins?!!!)

I did end up chatting to a few people - admittedly not for long and I did struggle a little with my anxiety, but there were a few girls who I was glad to have a little chat with - particularly Franjeska from http://franjeskasofia.blogspot.co.uk/ and Paige from http://www.curlygurlymoments.com/.

I picked up some blogger's cards to have a read of their blogs, and we were then given a goody bag each.

I particularly enjoyed getting to meet and chat to lovely Kerry and Liza - they couldn't have been any nicer, and I'm so pleased for them that their first event was such a success!!
They did so well in organising it, and I hope there will be more in the future!
It might not have been a total triumph over anxiety as I didn't do nearly as much mingling as I would have liked to, but at least I've been a meet now and I know what to expect - so next time I will make sure I arrive on time!
