Top Tips for Choosing Health Insurance

For many people health insurance is an absolute must. Most of these people are those with dependants to worry about. The choice to take out a policy must not be taken lightly as there are many things to consider when taking out a policy that could be with you for a very long time:

1.   Prioritise – You need to think carefully about why you’re deciding to take out private health insurance. Make a list of your most pressing priorities and make sure the policy you go for ticks all of those boxes first and foremost, you can think about the extras later.

2.   Comparison – Once you have sorted out yourself, or with your partner, exactly what it is you are looking for from your policy you need to then start shopping around. This stage is an integral part of insurance purchasing. If you do not compare health insurance policies you will never know if you are getting the best deal.

3.   Switching –You should have a look at competitors on an annual basis.  Many companies will go a long way not to lose business.

4.   Waiting Periods – Make sure there is no gap between your policies. If you are moving from one company to another make sure the new provider has you covered from day one of the switch. They should do all the paperwork for you and arrange a seamless transition.

5.   Changes – Check to see how flexible your chosen company is when it comes to making changes to your policy. No one knows exactly what is going to happen but if you have planned changes coming up in your life, make sure your chosen company will not penalise you for it.

6.   Cooling Off Period – Many insurers give their customers a cooling off  period usually between 28 to 30 days.  If you’re not satisfied with the product during the cooling off period you will receive any premiums paid back if you decide to cancel.
