Stay Fashionable During Pregnancy

Posted on the 24 November 2013 by Reasonstodress

I wanted to make this week a celebration of all things PREGNANCY!  So the whole week will be dedicated to pregancy street style, pregnancy fashion and pregnancy must-haves.  This will most likely be a recurring thing.

Those nine months FLEW by ….well, actually, the first seven months flew by and the last two months I was on 100% bed-rest and spent 23 hours a day for 60 days lying on my left side.  So, those last two months seemed to last FOREVER, but it doesn’t matter I still loved being pregnant.  Being pregnant is the most amazing, powerful and spiritual time that (in my humble opinion) turns a girl into a woman.

So cheers to you “people who make people” this week is for you.

Today, for My Monday, I wanted to bring you a few different sites that I think are excellent reading material for the pregnant lady looking to stay in style.

My Reading Material – Bump It Up Style.com

Bumpitupstyle.com is like a mecca of fantastic fashion and style advice for pregnant women.  It isn’t really a blog (actually the blog section has very few articles) , it is a book that also has a website.  I would keep this website on my bookmarks tab and refer to it at the beginning of each trimester.

Author Amy Tara Koch gives her top tips and tricks for each trimester, including the “fourth” trimester right after you give birth. She also includes Expert Advice from A-Listers that give great advice without spending a lot of money.  The key to looking great throughout pregnancy, according to this site, is to WANT TO LOOK GREAT!

Resolve not to spend your pregnancy in jogging pants and your boyfriend’s t-shirt.  A little bit of effort + good basics + accessories make all the difference.

On Wednesday I’ll feature some of my pregnancy outfits, but I pretty much lived in:

  • 3 pairs of good quality designer maternity pants
  • a maternity winter coat
  • 3 pairs of maternity high den ultracirculation producting anti-varicose vein protecting pantyhose that I wore under EVERYTHING
  • 4 pairs of ultra circulation producing anti-varicose vein thigh-high pantyhose in black and nude.  They were sexy (lace on the top of the thigh to hold them up and functional – no restless leg syndrome for me)
  • 7 or 8 different, 100% cotton long sleeved t-shirts
  • and cardigans, belts, boots and a-line dresses that I already had

I looked good, I felt good, I even felt attractive (attraction is in the mind not in your thighs) and I attribute this to the fact that I treated dressing for  pregnancy just like dressing for any other occasion.    I would say the most difficult style moments I had were in the middle/end of the first trimester.  At that point I still hadn’t invested in my pregnancy jeans  and my regular cloths didn’t fit well.  I was too thick to be thin, and not thick enough to be pregnant.   At least once you finally get your belly you can work with it, before that it’s a little awkward.

If I were to do it all over again (which may or may not happen who knows!), I would have worn more empire dresses and skirts in that first trimester, to hide my growing thighs/butt (I swear I grew my son in my butt and not in my stomach) and accentuate my full bosom (how I miss that bosom!)

My Reading Material - Prairie Girl In The City .com

Another great website that has a lot of great maternity style ideas and inspirations is by Vancouverite Jen at Prairie Girl In The City.com.  You’ll notice that she hasn’t really updated the blog much in November, that’s because her baby is due like NOW.  Most likely she’s had it! Good luck Jen!

Jen is one pretty lady, and for fuller women she is truly inspirational.  I love how she totally rocks her big pregnancy belly and full form in everything she wears.  Her style is a nice mix of layering basics, drammatic statement necklaces and simple shoes.
