Step Away From the Slump
Sometimes I find myself in a slump. Do I like it? Well, no. But instead of wallowing, I'm trying to learn from it. I think I just get so burnt out when my life is set in the same routine for too long. Lately my life has consisted of: working, working out, blogging & studying. Lots of studying. Now if you'll notice, that list doesn't involve much interaction with other people. I think that's when I start getting in these slumps.
I just have the urge to stop everything I'm doing and move away. Go on an adventure. Have no worries. But then I come back to planet Earth and realize that one, that isn't realistic and two, that won't solve my problems.
I'm really striving to break things up a bit. I know that I have to keep on top of my responsibilities (especially studying), but I need to make more of an effort to incorporate the things that bring me joy. I need to make time to have dinner with a friend. I need to take a study break and go outside to get some fresh air. I can't let myself become a slave of my to-do list, because let's be honest...that thing is never ending. I'm trying to focus on the fact that this is just a stage in my life. I have my certified personal trainer exam on March 28, so after that I won't be glued to my textbook & flashcards. That will most definitely be a relief.
I'm also trying to remember that although my very type-A self would love to know each and every detail about my future, that God knows what he is doing and that I have to trust him. I've really been working on trust lately. I've sort of been failing. I've let myself get overwhelmed and unhappy. But now that I've told y'all, I'm hoping it'll hold me accountable to really trust God & enjoy life. And not just say it, but do it. Starting now, I'm going to love my life. Every second of it. If it's not what I want it to be, I'm going to change something. No more letting myself get stuck in these ruts. It's okay to not have everything figured out. It's okay to skip a blog post once in awhile to go to the park and just soak in the sunshine. It's okay to skip a workout occasionally to spend time with someone I care about.
It's all about balance. And enjoying each and every day that is given to us.

So I encourage you: when life seems to be heavy, just remember that without the lows in life you wouldn't appreciate the highs. Focus on the things in your life that make you happy. For instance my happy list:
- Adam (and Buck!)
- Family & friends
- Glitter
- Wine & coffee
- Reading
- Spending time outside
- Trying new work outs
- Redecorating my apartment
and obviously
- Dance parties to Luke Bryan & Ke$ha
