Stir It Up, #926

I have never been a very good baker.  That may be surprising to some of you since I am so crafty and am a hopeless creative type.  It is true though…my cookies come out burnt, my cakes dry and my dough always has spots of flour that I somehow miss mixing in.

The problem is that baking is an exact science.  You cannot even slightly deter from a recipe or you end up with a mess.  I know that this basic concept is my problem.  This is why I prefer cooking any day to baking.  If you add an extra pinch to a cooking recipe, it still usually ends up delicious.

All this said, I must admit to you that I’m a bit apprehensive about baking Hamantaschen with 3rd-9th graders.  Hamantaschen are traditional Purim cookies, and this group of eager children and I are taking on the project in preparation for a Purim Family Shabbat dinner.  Oh goodness…pressure is on.  Please keep your fingers crossed that our Hamantaschen come out okay.  Later tonight, I will upload some photos and let you know how it went, but until then….please, blog friends, keep me in your good thoughts.  I need all the positive thinking I can get.

Fortunately, I am not heading into this project alone.  I have two fabulous colleagues to work with…one of which is also a non-baker.  Oh dear!

My song of the day is from someone who always gets me in a happy mood…Bob Marley!  ”Stir it up” seems like a good mantra for this blog.  So why not….good music to get us going.  Enjoy!
