Summer in the Vineyards: Sonoma.

Posted on the 01 July 2013 by Jamie Gall @50states50wines

I know last week I mentioned I’d be taking you to Malibu, but then I realized it was 4th of July week.

Last year, I had the opportunity to experience, Sonoma, CA during the 4th of July festivities, and seriously, they put on a pretty amazing fireworks show.  Not only that, but earlier in the day in their town center they have a variety of activities to partake in including a parade, salami tosses, and artists showcasing their works.

Wineries to visit in Sonoma, CA:

When we think of California Wine Country our minds instantly think of Napa and Sonoma Counties.  Napa getting more of the representation, but honestly, at least in my experience so far, Sonoma is where it’s at.

Their down to earth and friendliness in their wineries had me.   So, let me take you to a couple:

Gloria Ferrer Caves and Vineyards:

If you love sparkling wines you will love stopping by this vineyard set up on a bit of a hill.  The patio area overlooks the beautiful vineyards below.

And Gloria Ferrer makes it fun and has a variety of summer events taking place:

Oysters in the Arbor: Friday, July 12th and August 16th: 3pm to 6pm

While you enjoy your sparkling wine, sit back, and munch on some oysters in the meantime.

July 20th and 21st: Catalan Festival: 21st Annual

Every July, Gloria Ferrer plays host to their Catalan Festival.  With festive music, entertainment from guitars and Flamenco dancers, and even a Grape Stomp is involved.

For ticket information please visit their site here.

Cline Family Cellars:

Just a few blocks down the road from Gloria Ferrer lies Cline Family Cellars.  This place gives such a warm and friendly vibe upon entering offering 3 free tastings to try out.

Out back is a nice pond area where you can purchase feed to feed the fish that are swimming around within.

July 13th: Jazz Festival: 11am to 6:30pm

This summer on  July 13th, stop by Cline’s for their Jazz Festival.  Food and wine are available for purchase otherwise you’re invited to bring a picnic.

Jacuzzi Family Vineyards:

A fairly new winery to the Sonoma scene, however, this has easily become one of my favorite vineyards to visit, and yes, they come from the same family line that created those famous jacuzzi’s.
