In order to stave off any pangs of boredom sous le soleil, I rely on one of my favorite fixtures of the season; summer reading. Last week, Kitty dropped by with a bag of books she had read, for me to take on vacation. Kitty, the literary gangsta had all of the old time classics, fine selections like L.A Candy and Fame Game by Lauren Conrad, Snooki: A Shore Thing by Nicole Polizz, The Truth About Diamonds by Nicole Richie....and of course, 50 Shades of Grey.
While I'm not sure I could exactly stomach a Snooki autobiography or a Lauren Conrad novel, I am curious about this summer's smut hit, 50 Shades of Grey and since it has been sitting in my room, luring me to read it, I figure why deny it? Kitty did buy it at full price, so she might as well get her money's worth and have it read twice....right?
Okay, I'm so full of it. I wanted to read the damn thing and haven't been able to put it down! I could no longer hold back. Since starting it, I have been feeling the way my grandmother described what reading Valley of the Dolls was like in the 60s; "a hot-to-trot housewife".
So I don't love the book but I must to say, I have been enjoying it, cringing at some the descriptions, and blushing during some of the more racy scenes. Bottom line: I am fully entertained. And isn't that what summer is all about?
Who read 50 Shades? Any thoughts?
