♪ Sungha Jung ♫ 정성하 ♩

Posted on the 08 July 2013 by Kimeetay @Kimee_Tay

안녕하세요 fellow earthlings! Haha. I’m in a super good mood now cause I just attended an amazing event. I’ll blog about it soon but today, I want to dedicate this blogpost to Sungha Jung, 정성하 – my idol, my inspiration, my favorite musician.

If you have no idea who’s Sungha Jung, go wikipedia right now. 2 weeks ago (22 June 2013), Sungha was here in Kuala Lumpur to perform!

Dad got me tickets to his performance as my 19th birthday present! The only thing I don’t like about this picture is my hair -.- messy semacam. Haha.

I wore everything monochrome, from head to toe. Haha. Black and white je #likeazebra

I prepared a little something for Sungha. Haha.

Tadaa! It’s not just a star. . .

It’s a STAR card. LOL. I hope he had the time to open it :/

It was a little jam on the way to Menara DBKL – it’s either because of G-Dragon’s Concert or Black 505.

Outside the Auditorium Hall, The Guitar Store (the organizer) was selling Guitars, Ukuleles, accessories etc.

Sungha Jung’s Lakewood guitar O.O

Sungha Jung’s Lakewood guitar and ANueNue Ukulele O.O

Sungha Jung and I. LOL. I wanted to take it back home. -3-

The tickets! I went with Dad the Daddy. LOL. We sort of got the perfect seats – B 17 and B 18. Dad bought it during the pre-sale period. The person at The Guitar Store said that first row ain’t the best seat cause you gotta tilt your head up (sore neck after) and that second row center seats are the best so yay us! ツ

The view from my seat without zoom ツ Gosh. Just looking back at the pictures make me super happy!

I know it’s a blur picture but it’s the first picture I took of Sungha so post jugak. He came on stage carrying his Lakewood guitar ツ

Sungha connecting his Lakewood guitar to the amp! Omo. Like that also I excited. Haha.

Sungha tuning his Lakewood guitar! Here’s a fun fact – Sungha tunes his guitar differently for each song he plays. I could see that he rotates the knob a whole 360 degrees! He’s only 17, such an amazing guy! I feel so old cause I’m 2 years older than him. Haha.

There were 2 sessions during his performance. Set 1 – 15 minutes break – Set 2. For each set, he played 8 songs.

The moment he appeared, after tuning his guitar he played a song straight away! The first song he played was Felicity. I knew it the moment he started playing cause it’s one of my favorite of all his original tunes. It’s also the first song on his latest album Paint It Acoustic. Listen to it below ツ

The second song he played was Friends (also a song he composed), 4th track on Paint It Acoustic. Youtube video below ツ

Third song he played was Sorry (another original tune of his), it’s the third song on Paint It Acoustic. Watch it below!

Notice that the name of the song matches the melody really well. Omg! He is one amazing human being God created. He self-learn guitar in the beginning leh. Wish he is my master. Hehe. After each song he play, he would nod, smile and say “Thank you. The next song is . . .” His words are just those few. Haha. Another thing is the lesser he talks, the more he plays. LOL.

The fourth song he played was Payphone by Maroon 5! It has 12 million views on Youtube! He arranged this song himself too! The moment he said he was playing this song, the audience cheered louder – cause maybe it’s a song they can relate to. I guess. Haha.

Next, a very classic piece from a musical - The Phantom of The Opera from The Phantom of The Opera. This music piece is also available in the Paint It Acoustic album, 2nd track. Listen to it below ツ

Alright, for the sixth song, I have a super long story to tell. The moment he announced that he was going to play Locked Out of Heaven by Bruno Mars, I immediately had this nostalgic feeling in me.

The video above was the first video of Sungha Jung that I watched. The story of how I knew about Sungha Jung . . . During Awal Muharam early this year (I remember that it was a Thurday), I was stuck in college. While all the Muslims were out for their prayers and marching etc, I stayed in my room with my laptop. I wanted to watch Bruno Mar’s Locked Out of Heaven music video. While watching it, I saw one of the suggested videos on the right side of the screen – a boy on a sofa with a guitar covering Bruno Mar’s Locked Out of Heaven.

Yes, that boy is Sungha Jung! The video had A MILLION views. Usually guitar covers don’t get that many views so I thought this guy must be good.  I clicked on the video to watch it and I was wrong. He wasn’t good, HE WAS A GENIUS SUPER TALENTED MIND BLOWING FINGERSTYLE ACOUSTIC GUITARIST! And I spent the whole day watching his videos. Probably not all cause there were just too many! Haha. And since then, I became a huge fan of Sungha Jung ツ

I think I am super awesome cause I can remember the day I found out about Sungha Jung. Haha. I always self praise one. Pfft. A lot of people whom I know that knows about Sungha Jung when I ask since when then their answer would always be 2 or 3 years ago etc. Anyway let’s move on about Sungha’s performance.

After playing 6 songs on his Lakewood guitar, he played his ANueNue Ukulele! First song he played on the Ukulele was Somebody That I Used To Know by Gotye! One of my all time favorite song!

2nd song he played on the ukulele was a Beatles song that I didn’t know. Plus he said the name of the song a little too fast. Haha. After the 2nd song on the ukulele, there was a 15 minutes break.

Random picture of the stage during the break time. Haha. See the cartoon version of Sungha, I don’t know which no sense of creativity fella did the design. Sungha don’t look so emo one okay?! And his hair not that flat. His ears aren’t that huge. Even though I I didn’t like cartoon version of Sungha Jung, I still bought the RM 25 t-shirt with that cartoon on it. Dad paid though. LOL.

Paint It Acoustic!  Freshly opened. During the break time I told my dad – Daddy, he sure play Canon in D with the electric guitar. Believe or not?

When Set 2 begin, he came on the stage and grabbed the electric guitar straight away!

He even played a short verse of Smoke On The Water by Deep Purple! Classic rock ❤

Sungha Jung plugging his phone to the amp (I think).

Guess what?! He did play Canon in D ツ I am a genius. Haha. No lah. Cause the only video on Youtube with Sungha playing the electric guitar is Canon – Rock version. When Sungha plays this piece of music, he uses background music and I guess that’s why he plugged his phone to the amp ツSungha looks so cool cause he dresses so smartly! Malaysia so hot and humid but he’s wearing long sleeve (rolled-up), salute!

He started learning electric guitar for 2 months before the video above was uploaded on Youtube! Sungha is such amazing young lad! One thing both my mom and dad commented was that he is really skinny and looks unhealthy. Haha. I agree with them that he’s a bit too skinny. But he looks healthy to me ツ He’s still growing so I’m sure he’ll get buff-er and put on more weight in the near future!

After one song on the electric guitar, he played his Lakewood guitar again. Second song for Set 2 that he played was I Remember You (an original song he composed himself), also available on Paint It Acoustic - 6th track.

Next he played Nostalgia (another of his own original tune), 7th track on Paint It Acoustic.

I feel that all the songs he composed himself, the title of the music piece matches really well with the melody. He is a true music genius! Don’t you think so?!

Fourth song he played in the Set 2 was a song composed by a Korean guitarist. It’s one of his favorite tunes but I have no idea what’s the title of the song cause I didn’t manage to hear what he said. Aigoo my ear.

Notice in the picture above he’s put’s his pick between his lips when he plucks, and when he wants to strum, he takes the pick from his mouth. He does it so naturally it’s almost unnoticeable. After the unknown (to me lah) song, he played Howl’s Moving Castle Theme SongThere are 2 versions on Youtube – one young Sungha and another older Sungha. Haha.

When Sungha plays, he usually crosses his right leg over the left (me too!) #funfact

The second last song he played was Guitar Boogie!

Finally the last song *sobs* I want to hear him play forever. LOL. That’s impossible. The last song he played was a local song. He said the title to fast again and I didn’t manage to catch it. Haha. And also the above picture is the only picture I took of Sungha looking up and smiling ツ

The above picture is when after the last song, and everybody cheered ENCORE, Sungha terus went off the stage. Haha.

He did came back on stage ❤ He literally said “this is the real last song”. Aww, so cute!

He played a Jazz song in which I didn’t catch the name again. wtf

Our MC of the day! Amos from The Guitar Store.

Sungha unplugging his Lakewood guitar :/

Sungha Jung – talented and humble at the same time. 90 degree bow after the performance.

He received a bouquet of flowers from The Guitar Store! I wonder what he did to them. Takkan he bring it back to Korea. Haha. Probably just left it at the hotel.

If you did watch the Youtube videos that I have embedded in this post, you would have to agree that Sungha is one young dude with amazing talents right? But watching him play live (just barely 10 metres away) is just so amazing its mesmerizing. It’s different compared to watching them on Youtube. Towards the end, there was a little technical problem with the speakers but he still gave us his all.

I just love the way he plays, not just his plucking and strumming but also his changing of chords. For me, when he changes chords, there is this slight chord changing sound. Haha. I don’t know how to explain lah. I think every fan of Sungha should put ‘watching Sungha perform Live’ in his or her bucket list. After his performance, I was like WOW I just heard the best music in my life!

After the performance, there was autograph session outside the auditorium hall. Poor Sungha, after an hour and a half of performance, pressing on each string hard to get the right note, plucking and strumming his heart out to get the best sound, he had to sign a gazillion stuff! Plus the air-cond in DBKL as pretty meh and poor Sungha was sweating all over!

After queueing for a pretty long while, it was my turn! I super love this blur picture cause Sungha was looking at me? #MacamYes only. Haha. When I went there, he signed my guitar and album but the management people say shirt cannot (but previously can). Actually the autograph session was super messy and complicated. While I was fumbling with the shirt, I didn’t even manage to see him sign my items :/

Sungha is a lil underweight. Haha. Eat more Sungha!

So since I didn’t get to take a picture with Sungha, the next best person to take a picture with is Miss Dee Kim – Sungha’s manager.  She was a really nice lady! Oh and my gift for Sungha I passed it to her cause … I have no idea why. LOL.

Dad got a picture with Miss Dee too! My dad looks so red -.-

After that they say shirt also can sign. Then I sort of jumped queue to get my shirt signed. Sungha signing my shirt! Even though he has to sign so many things, he autographs each items with thought and effort. Gosh Sungha you’re such a great guy! After he signed my shirt, I even shook hands with him! Ahh, starstruck -3-

I went home really happy that day! All signatures above freshly signed when I took this photo.

This hand shook hands with Sungha Jung before. Haha. Only proof is the photo.

All my Sungha Jung related items. Hehe. I think Sungha’s signature is a guitar plus ‘Ha’ from his name.

Watched Sungha Jung perform live, had him sign my guitar, shook hands with Sungha, met his manager, I had such a great night. That day has to be the best 22nd June of my life! Can’t wait for him to come to Malaysia to perform again! I would go and nothing is gonna stop me.

Thank you Sungha for your amazing music and humble personality. Wish you were my dongsaeng 동생.
