Supermarket Favourites: May

Posted on the 27 May 2014 by Sparklesandstretchmarks @raine_fairy
Well another month has passed, and its time again for me to chat about some of my recent Supermarket discoveries!
I love trying out new products around the home and in the kitchen, and every month I give a little update on my favorite new products.
So here we go with May's finds!
Cadbury Dairy Milk Ritz & Lu Bars

Oh My Goodness.
These are possibly my favorite discovery of the YEAR so far, let alone of the month!
I first heard about these when my friend Emma from Beauty By Emma posted about them on her Instagram a couple of months ago, and I was quick to comment that they sounded weird....
I associate Ritz with cheese crackers (Though I realize now they're not actually cheese flavoured, so I don't know why I thought that!) and I could not see how they would work with chocolate at all.
Well....I tentatively tried some recently and wow....I was WRONG.
They work AMAZINGLY well together.
The combination of the sweet chocolate and salty biscuit is just heavenly, it seems to bring out the creaminess in the Dairy Milk chocolate and the crunch is just so satisfying.
The LU variety are also really nice - sweeter than the Ritz ones which suits some tastes well (Jon prefers these ones), but I prefer the Ritz.
The bars are the perfect size - not too big and too small, and at just 58p they are a perfect little pick me up!
Available from all good stores nationwide.
Ragu Pasta Sauces
We were kindly sent a lovely package from RAGU this month to try out (Tyne loved the colouring books, and the chopping board was very handy....thank you!!). Unfortunately the stir in and bake sauces were damanged in the post, but we did get to try out the bolognese sauces!
I have to admit to being a bit of a snob when it comes to pasta sauces....I usually try to make my own where I can, but I do also use jars for convenience sometimes...when I do I have always reached for the Loyd Grossman sauces, simply because my Mum uses them and I`ve always enjoyed them.
However, the Loyd Grossman ones can be quite expensive and they are not very big either.
So we were happy to try out RAGU's offerings - which came in much more family sized jars! - to see how they compared.
We tried out the hidden vegetable bolognese - I expected to see chunky vegetables and was surprised not to see any - though I now realize that was rather silly of me, it states right there in the name that the vegetables are hidden!!
Well they were certainly hidden well as there were none in sight - which would be excellent when trying to get some veggie goodness into fussy little eaters, as they would literally never be able to tell they were eating them!
I used the sauce in a bolognese bake for a bit of a change from the usual spaghetti bolognese - we used wholewheat pasta, quorn mince and the Ragu sauce all combined and covered with cheese.

It was DELICIOUS.
So tasty, so tomatoey and so moreish!
I always think the true test when it comes to reviewing items is whether or not you choose to spend your own money to repurchase a product - well we went shopping today and I walked straight past the Loyd Grossman and hunted out the RAGU hidden vegetable bolognese sauce again! So we are certainly big fans!
Available from all good supermarkets
Surf Tropical Lily & Ylang-Ylang Detergent

Before I say anything about the detergent itself....can we just stop for a moment to appreciate how cool this bubble dress is that Sam Faier's is modelling for the ad campaign?!
This dress was actually created bcelebrity fashion house Studio XO in their fashion laboratory. The dress was three weeks in back-to-back development – ending in a jaw droppingly beautiful design that looks at home on any red carpet. Sam says “The Surf Bubble Dress is such fun to wear and I loved being on the shoot – it was certainly a unique experience, with three women placing tiny bubbles directly onto my skin to create the final, fabulous effect!”Surf detergent has always done its job really well whenever I've tried it in the past and this time was no different, and the gorgeous tropical lily and ylang-ylang scent was really something else - the scent wasn't overpowering at all, but left a nice delicate scent on my clothes when they came out of the wash. Gorgeous!
